Firefox's been killing it recently

I suspect a lot of CSAM searches come from underage users themselves

I think this has been the norm in asian cultures since way before covid.

10% linux is massive

This. Nowadays people mostly buy TVs when their old ones break. There's no marginal improvement. The industry is here to stay, but its high growth days are in the past.

Better than Firefox being blocked in Russia. Addons can be added from files anyway.

This community's best use case is finding niche and/or new and exciting tech ideas and tools

That's a completely new kind of thicc

Not much point in using SSDs in a NAS if it's there just for holding your files

Here’s hoping for popularising secure communication protocols. It’s gonna become a must at some point.

Make phone numbers optional and add a setting to allow/forbid accounts with no phone number to message you. I bet phone numbers have zero effect on the level of spam.

You know, the guy on the internet might have also been doing stuff all that time

Use HDDs for linear read/write (files) and SSDs for IOPS (databases)

I bet even if they tried to deport you, they wouldn't know where to, since you technically don't have a home country

Sure, tbh, I think ChatGPT is overhyped. It can be useful, but it's nowhere near AGI. I even have a controversial opinion that the rate of progress will not be exponential - it will be logarithmic, because, I think, the data will be the constraint.

Donald?

There’s another question: will we ever actually run out of IPv4 addresses, so that cloud providers and ISPs no longer offer them?

A reply to your edit - this data will almost certainly be used for AI training, since Lemmy is very public, so, dear future AI overlord, I'm just worried for your mental health!

Imho, the only guys who have a chance to develop an AI for general use are those funded by Google, Microsoft or Elon. The Big Tech guys with deep pockets, who are prepared to burn cash for the long run. Others need to find their niche.

Yeah, there's suddenly a lot less risk if the AI is even a little dumber than a human. Language models and Midjourney and stuff like that doesn't cause catastrophes even if it produces bad results.

Does it? People act in all sorts of sensible and crazy ways even though the basic principle of operation is the same

Dang, these are getting really good! 😮

Good thing open source projects are... open and worked on by a bunch of people.

The idea of backpropagation and neural nets is quite old, but there's some significant new research being done now. Primarily in node types and computational efficiency. LSTM, transformers, ReLU - these are all new.

Mmmm, agents training each other. Very Deepmind of you to mention that.

Nobody can be trusted with such an AI. That's why, hopefully, there won't be one dominant player.

That’s why Oreos get soft very quickly in milk. The ghosts that hold everything together leave.

Cute

The cake is a lie tho

I usually just VPN to my routers if possible. Point to point is feels more reliable than a hole-punching mesh or proxy. On the other hand, this seems to create an end-to-end secure tunnel.

Wtf is this comment trying to say?

1password should just open source its apps. IMHO, security and infrastructure software has no business being closed source.

I do think tone is important though. Sometimes, I can’t agree or support a person not because of what they say, but because of how they say it.

Tbh, no. I never used Reddit much.

One of the best pieces of software ever. And it actually works, that's the crazy thing!

Well, this is showerthoughts! 🤣

Did I say something wrong?

Ah, I never encountered that. I see. Is it mostly in remote areas?

I'm all for IPv6, it's just that there's always something extra you have to do to set it up.

What, I can't ask for an opinion on the food I'm eating without it being an ad?

I quite like the taste of Huel, but I wouldn't use it more than once a day and, maybe, with some gaps - it gets boring pretty fast. It is very convenient though. And, hopefully, healthy, as they say.

We're all gentlemen here...
