Gee, people in the US need to be this cautious when protesting? Where I live it's totally fine to just casually show up at protests, take selfies, talk to people and whatnot.

Me too! I was thinking, "Why would any brand rebrand themselves to Mud? That is even worse than Twitter rebranding to X!"

Assuming that the 80-pound (36.3 kg) stainless steel block is a solid cube, its side length would only be 16.6 cm (6.5 inches). (The density of the most common stainless steel (304) is 7930 kg/m^3.) Not nearly as big as the picture suggests. Still, it seems like it would be an awesome addition to my kitchen.

As an east Asian that eats rice every day, I must say that I don't consider this term racist at all. The meanings of words shift over time. For example, nice used to mean "foolish, ignorant, frivolous, senseless," but now it means "kind, thoughtful." Gay used to mean "lighthearted, joyous," then a slang for homosexuals, and ultimately became the term with which many homosexuals choose to describe themselves. Rice may have been a racist term, but now what it means is "to extensively customize one's desktop system to one's liking, especially Linux systems." It no longer is racist.

I tried to preach why Google sharing your browsing history with ad partners is bad, but most of my friends don't seem to care. :(

AAAAXY. AAAAXY is a nonlinear 2D puzzle platformer taking place in impossible spaces. You can take a walk on a Möbius strip, try to find the platform with your train at the train station, and play a piano that makes the Shepard tone. It will be a bit confusing at first, but I promise it will eventually get fun.

It's not on Steam, but it's available for download on the website for free. Linux, Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. Also on F-Droid and FlatHub. give it a try im begging you

Yes, they've been saying that since forever.

  • likes to bob their heads
  • arranged marriages
  • spices
  • really hot and humid
  • as other people have mentioned, can be a bit unruly at times

No. It actually is named Arya. they are just pointing out how similar it is to Aryan

This text sounds... ChatGPT-ish. Especially the last paragraph.

I don't understand why there isn't a "markdown library" of some sort that software developers can just use in their app. I haven't looked too deep into this, but it has always seemed to me that every app must individually implement markdown display. Why?

I like to think that he forgets, keeps trying and then makes a new post about it

Holy shit, Photon has gotten this good now? When I tried it a few months back it felt like just yet another Lemmy client. Now it feels so smooth and polished. Works great on mobile even. Thanks for making this!

Been there. It does feel satisfying.

What do you mean "the world isn't getting better"? It definitely is. I mean, just look at, well, uhh... well uhhh... nevermind.

jejajijal jeyjoard

obviously it's the skin, smh.

Are you not supposed to use "is" with "he/she/they"?

Genuine question: If I use a cryptocurrency such as Monero for its privacy benefits (only for spending, not as an investment), am I indirectly making crypto mining more profitable and hurting the environment?

ps. I don't use any crypto yet.

Edit: actually I don't care that much about private money. What if I were to just use some crypto because it's convenient? Would that be bad?

Akshually it's a Russian exclave. That means it's disconnected from the main part of Russia. An enclave is like Vatican city which is totally surrounded by Italy. 🤓🤓

I'm a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese from Taiwan. Some people often mix up 在 (zài) and 再 (zài) in writing. It's a bit hard to explain their definitions since they are merely function words (words that have little lexical meaning and express grammatical relationships among other words within a sentence), so I'm just gonna copy and paste their definitions from an online dictionary:

在: to exist; to be alive / (of sb or sth) to be (located) at / (used before a verb to indicate an action in progress)
再: again; once more; re- / second; another / then (after sth, and not until then) / no matter how ... (followed by an adjective or verb, and then (usually) 也 (yě) or 都 (dōu) for emphasis)

As you probably have noticed, their meanings don't overlap at all. The only reason some people mix them up is because they are homophones.

Another typo some... let's just say, less educated, people often make is 因該 (yīn'gāi). The correct word is 應該 (yīnggāi), meaning should; must. 因該 is never correct. You can think of 因該 as the Chinese version of the much dreaded "should of." The reason is that the distinction of -in and -ing is slowly fading away in Taiwan (it is still very much thriving in other Chinese-speaking societies), and some people just type too sloppily to care.

By the way, I should mention that 在, 再, and 應該 are very basic words, probably one of the first 500 words a non-native speaker learns.

Kinda glad where I live there's absolutely no way our government would allow CCP police to reach me. (unless the CCP police goes undercover and kidnaps me)

I too hate how much information is on discord now.

imho Chinese platforms censor their words too much. you might not have seen it, but the users self censor words like death, suicide, sex, and stuff like that.

Why does it seem like everyone in the comment section takes flights all the time? For me, flying on an airplane is for vacations abroad only, and I maybe get 2 flights a year at most. I assume this is one of those US things I'm too Asian to understand.

Sort of sad. This sounds like something I would do, not knowing there would be such consequences. Although maybe I wouldn't drill holes into the wall.

That all large salty bodies of water were called "the mediterranean sea."

You should try out these so-called ear clip headphones (aka clip on buds). I got this pair at a thrift store for ~US$3 yesterday. They latch on to your ear on the outside and do not go deep into your ears. Great for tight earussies or for earussy periods.

They were correcting your spelling

I didn't want to fucking swear on the internet

Thanks, I'll try out IPA on a less obvious spot to see if it damages the case and if it removes the text. If that doesn't work maybe I'll just live with covering it with my fingers. I agree, the "AI" is funny.

I wish I looked as hot as this guy

Dude, this is common fucking knowledge, and nobody cares

The 730 people who upvoted this post do care.

The problem is that lemmy.ml hosts too many popular communities. There are people who want them gone from their feeds but also don't want their Lemmy experience to become empty and boring.

A not-so-fun fact: The Tetsuya in his name is actually 徹也. Just a coincidence that it sounds the same as "staying up all night". Fun coincidence though.

This has always, always, always been the case for me since I got a laptop with Windows 11 preinstalled on it. I dual boot Linux (openSUSE) and rarely use Windows, and this screen pops up like 5% of the time when I boot to Windows.
