Something (almost) no one has mentioned: factory farming of livestock. I'm not gonna say a person who engages in subsistence farming shouldn't be able to keep a coop of chickens for eggs (as long as their chickens are well cared for), but large scale animal husbandry and livestock is devastating to the environment and genuinely cruel.

As someone who has done a lot of distro hopping in the past, I've found that going for a stable release that is widely used as a daily driver is superior for gaming than "gaming specific" linux distros, largely on the basis that the gaming distros have routinely had buggy UIs, driver issues, and a variety of unexpected and undesired behavioral problems tied to the array of "gaming adjacent" software installed, most of which you can install yourself with little to no effort and most of which you probably don't want or need in the first place.

The idea of a "Prison Architect" series of games is just conceptually wild to me. I wonder if in a hundred years this will have the same ring to it that a game like "Slave Plantation Architect" would have today. Just remarkably crass and tasteless.
Twitter is terrible for people like me. I like following interests: books, coding, landscape photography, linux, etc. Twitter is more about following people, and people have diverse interests. One thing I really liked about Reddit was that it had active subreddits dedicated to particular interests. You could just hang out in those subreddits and only ever interact with things on topic to said interests. Lemmy has a bit less of that, unless your interests are politics, linux, and programming, and shitty memes.
I'm not. Universities aren't places of open or free learning. They're deeply invested in capitalism and benefit greatly from intellectual property laws. In fact, most universities function largely as state subsidized pipelines that take people without a viable, real world skill set and turn them into people who still don't have a viable real world skill set, but who do have a piece of paper telling corporations that they're able and willing to put up with complete bullshit, general mistreatment, and dull, grueling labor for years without incident. Which is good enough for your typical middle-class wage slave and whatever they might want to do.

This is the only realistic answer. Corporations have effectively decided that the future of the web is closed source proprietary javascript bloatware apps that are all functional skinner boxes. Many people, especially young people, have no clue how to use an actual computer. It's "click the bubble to make it pop and give us your mom's credit card number to unlock super premium bubbles." That's the future of the internet. But probably worse.

It's an interesting idea, though, that one's preference for a particular design or aesthetic, especially when that design or aesthetic is emblematic of a particular historical or cultural moment, is never wholly isolated to its visual or material components, but also innately tied to our memory and understanding of that moment. I personally don't think you can extricate a particular aesthetic from the psychic background noise surrounding it. Our minds don't work that way. It's always forming these subconscious or unconscious connections, binding events and memory to abstract signifiers.
We don't like the 90s aesthetic because it's "better" or even attractive. I mean, nobody has wallpaper in their home with those pastel and neon triangles. Many of us like it because it reminds us of childhood, of not having responsibilities other than waking up early enough on Saturday to catch all your cartoons and of not complaining too much when you have to go visit your grandparents who can never remember your birthday and who always ask you how old you are this year, of finishing Super Mario on the SNES before your friend does so you can brag about being better at video games than him. It's of a simpler time and place, because we were simpler. And it was, in retrospect, of an America briefly sandwiched between the end of the original "Forever War" that was the Cold War, and the beginning of the 20th Century's new "Forever War," that is the War on Terror.

One of the funniest advertisements I've seen on youtube was basically someone on tiktok going "Okay, I'm gonna try this game out called 'Insert Incredibly Generic Title Here'. Is it a fake game? Let's see." 10 seconds of them playing level 1: "okay, I blew up that barrel and got some coins. Looks like it's not a fake game." And that's the advertisement: Our game is a game that actually exists and isn't an appstore scam.
I fully believe we'll get a standardized 60 hour work week before we get a 20 hour one. Hell, I'm pretty sure we'd relegalize slavery before we get a 20 hour work week. Your average American will bend over backwards for a chance to please "the boss" and actively rat on their colleagues for avoiding work because our cultural understanding of loyalty is functionally equivalent to boot licking.

There's a number of existing forks already. Most of them for porn. For the ones that have integrated with the last Tachiyomi update that removed native extensions, what you'll be able to do is set a repository as an upstream apk source for whatever extensions you want. XBox has always been a weird console. It never really competes with Nintendo because NIntendo always does its own general thing and also slides neatly into the kids and family market. So it competes with Playstation by default. Except Playstation actually has contracts with good studios to make exclusive games. What's a non-Halo exclusive for the XBox? Back in the day, you'd play games like Gears of War, Halo (obviously), Fallout 3, Psychonauts, KOTOR, COD, etc. I can't think of a single meaningful game on the most recent generation for the XBox.

Now that would be an interesting movie. You have a guy who really loved action hero movies as a kid and spent his life honing those skills. Not because he really wants to kill anyone, but just because it's fun. He spends his professional career as a mundane office worker until one day a group of terrorists take over his office building and plan on killing everyone inside. He has to fight his way through multiple floors of trained killers to get to the top so he can take down the chief bad guy, The Raid/Judge Dredd style. Realistically, he would definitely die within like 2 minutes from getting shot in the back of the head, but it's still a fun setup for an "unlikely hero" action movie.
Pitbulls are not more genetically predisposed towards biting or mauling than other breeds and the supposed "statistical data" on the subject is based around a confluence of inaccurate metrics caused by 1) people not being very good at accurately identifying dog breeds, 2) existing groups that hate pitbulls pushing bad statistics for political purposes, and 3) a self-fulfilling prophecy of pitbulls having a bad reputation and actively being sought out by people who want vicious dogs and who will treat their dogs in such a way as to encourage that behavior. And I say all of this as someone who does not own a pitbull and probably never will.
