Additionally, Hunter Biden is a private citizen, and did not take an oath to uphold the Constitution nor did he have access to classified information that he could mishandle, nor did he have influence over our government’s most powerful arms of justice. There is no comparison between what Hunter Biden and Trump are alleged to have done - but the right would sure like for you to think that they are equivalent.

“Tankies” is slang for communists who align with the philosophy of authoritarian rule, like the Soviet Union who used violence to keep countries under their control in check.

Sealioning is something I saw a lot on Reddit, but not so much here - it is when someone responds continuously asking questions, trying to seem like they are engaged, but in reality they are trolling you. Like when you say something like “The sky is so blue today” and the come back with “That is interesting, do you have a link to some information that I can learn more about that?”

Lemmy and Mastodon seem to be doing the "open Internet" just fine. We should probably not try to draw too many conclusions from what's happening at Twitter and Reddit, both of which are turning into raging dumpster fires that go beyond just closing down the APIs.

All of these providers need to cease operating in the UK - it makes no sense to compromise security for the rest of the world just because one country wants to make it easier to spy on citizens.

I'm sorry, but any mod that gets a message threatening them like that and stays on has zero self respect. It's a volunteer job for god's sake!

It’s probably worthwhile to differentiate between “MP3 Players” and DAPs (Digital Audio Players) that are designed to play high resolution music (mainly FLAC files) through high-end wired headphones. Companies like FiiO and HiBy make these and they sell for $500 and up. I have a HiBy R5 Sabre that has a balanced output for driving my decent Dan Clark Aeon headphones. This all sounds spectacularly good playing high res files or a service like Tidal. It runs on a special version of Android, so you can install apps, etc.

Having said all of that, I do 90% of my portable music listening through bluetooth earbuds driven from my Samsung phone, so not sure the money I invested in my DAP setup has been worth it, and I probably wouldn’t do it again.

Evangelicals who follow Trump lose all of their ability to preach morals to anyone else. What a bunch of fucking hypocrites.

This article was masterfully written and laugh out loud funny.

Caring for average Americans is one thing, but assembling a government that is honest, inclusive and benefits the vast majority of citizens is most important; and there are HUGE differences between the candidates you mentioned! It's this line of thinking that is causing so much apathy in our world today, and ultimately this will be humanity's downfall.

I'm now spending 90% of my shit scrolling time here instead of Reddit (using Sync mainly) and I love it!

Yes, I'm amazed the lack of understanding in the general and tech media about the Fediverse

I believe enough of us will support Lemmy and Mastodon servers and developers monetarily that the upward growth will be sustained and we won't need to rely on broken corporations for the majority of the flow of information. The media should be at the forefront of this but most of them just can't seem to wrap their arms around it.

No thank you. I'm perfectly happy with Podcast Addict.

Very happy to be part of this community - feels like home to me!

The great thing about Lemmy is the users are in full control to make it whatever we want it to be. We aren't dependent on some profit seeking corporate board of douche bags to make arbitrary decisions in the name of the almighty dollar (or whatever your currency)

Same with me. I haven’t deleted my Reddit account yet, but will be doing that soon, after I delete or overwrite my comments of 10 years there.

Between Lemmy, Kbin and Mastodon, I have plenty to keep me occupied in what used to be my Reddit-scrolling time.

Rudy needs to have another press conference at the Four Seasons (lawn and garden company) so we can get to the bottom of what old Hunter is really up to.

How would Biden “change the courts?” (I presume you mean Supreme Court)

He has already nominated a liberal justice, which was about the only thing he had the power to do. With a minority in the house and the ever slimmest majority in the senate, expanding the court or taking down one of them for corruption is not going to happen.

If you want to change the courts, it has to be done by voting blue in state and local elections.

Well said. We'll likely never know the depth of the gritting or the extent of the damage done.

Penneys also stopped accepting coupons and it turned out that most of the older ladies who made up the lion’s share of the clientele loved coupons (who would have thought?). They also hired a retail exec from Apple (Ron Johnson) and he embarked on disasterous changes to stores and other things that regular customers hated. This is a great article that is titled “The J.C. penney Disaster Timeline” from 2012: https://www.businessinsider.com/the-jcpenney-disaster-timeline-how-ex-apple-guru-ron-johnson-is-destroying-the-company-2012-6

I’m definitely not disagreeing with you, but Lemmy has grown so large since the original “tankies” started Lemmy.ml that I don’t think it is really an issue for the larger community. I’ve only been here for a month or so but I have not seen many (if any) communistic related posts on the feeds, and if they are trying to spread their leftist messages they are not doing a very good job of it.

I have found Lemmy.world to be the most active platform, so I wanted to help out with server costs, thus the $2 per month. I have also donated to Ernest at Kbin and the Beehaw folks as well. I’m not going back to Reddit, so I want these communities to thrive and feel I need to pitch in the cost of a Latte every month to help out. Having said that, if I ever get the feeling that I am donating to some authoritarian cause I will stop donating immediately.

Just throw $2 a month toward Lemmy on Patreon! Well worth it.

FYI - the Lemmy devs fixed a serious bug this week that was affecting database performance and wefwef has been working MUCH better the past couple of days. I am trying other clients but keep coming back to wefwef because it provides basically the same experience on my Android phone and on my iPad.

10 years overall for me. I still browse some niche subreddits by RSS only and no longer comment or vote.

I take it you've never been to Amsterdam? Lots of screaming and bell ringing to get the hell out of the locals way 😂

Yes, late 50's US and I drive a 6 speed Jeep daily. Taught my 23 year old son to drive a stick and he just bought a Tacoma stick shift.

I learned on my grandfather's 3 on the tree 1968 Dodge camper van. If you can drive a 3 on the tree, you can drive anything.

Great, as always - thank you for all you do!

That was my first thought - Is he still alive? He must be 110 by now.

How about a partner and a local - Belts and Suspenders, and you only get one two-week shot at this.

I switched from Evernote to Joplin several years ago and haven't looked back. I had over 8,000 notes in Evernote and now have over 11,000 notes in Joplin. I'm using free Dropbox storage for syncing (3GB out of 6GB free) and run Windows, iPad and Android clients. I haven't missed Evernote at any point.

Yes, it is https://opencollective.com/mastodonworld (according to the link on lemmy.world main page)

I think you'll find there's lots of us over 50 types on here 🙂

Yes, I am not sure who this is targeted to exactly - there are so many better ways to consume podcasts and the other content they mention, for less money, or free in many cases. I had purchased Pocket Casts years ago before they went free, then sold out to PBS, was still free, and now this - seems like just dying to piece together a business model that’s is doomed to fail (again).

I have not noticed hashtags I follow changing much at all. Can you give an example of this?

Great points and I agree. I use the original Samsung Buds Pro and those sound fantastic using LDAC with my S21.

We live in a great time for portable audio to be able to get this kind of sound and performance out of something we can carry with us everywhere we go. I really only listen to my full size non-bluetooth headphones at home, and usually I am using my SMSL desktop headphone amp for that.

I live up the road from Beale and there is always weird shit going on there.

He needs to be encouraged to run as third party in the general election. He will ciphon a not-insignificant number of votes from Trump - all the Level 100 bat shit crazy republicans.

This is the kind of deep shit I come here for.

Regarding the donation, I signed up at Patreon which is referred by Ruud who I believe is the admin for all the .world Lemmy and Mastodon instances. I just saw where they actually prefer donations via OpenCollective, so I will likely change mine to that at some point.

I had one of the old black plastic Walkman cassette players and what a P.O.S. that was. Amazing how far we’ve come 😊

Yes, I could see that happening for broad topics. Most of the hashtags I follow are less broad, like #cityname, #backpacking and things like that. Most of my feed is follows of users I have interest in and it took a lot of effort to find those accounts.
