Just told my kid about it, and his face broke into a huge grin. I guess that's the target audience.

Though, Netflix has generally been pretty good with their animated shows, so won't mind taking a look at what they do with Minecraft myself.

According to a comment on another post on lemmy. The takedown notice is fake, probably sent by some troll. Garry's Mod is still removing stuff though, because they think it's real.

Well, as pretty much the biggest instance, it provides the best data for load-testing. đŸ«Ł

I don't know why everyone is so angry at this comment. The question was about what will it take for subscriptions to increase and become dominant in industry, the guy answered that. The interview was with the guy about Ubisoft's subscription service, what else people expected?

If anyone talks to the guy in-charge of Gamepass, and they ask them how will gamepass increase, they wont' say, well, if everyone keeps buying physical, that will be great for us.

Don't know what engine they used for STS, but apparently they were making STS 2 on Unity:

At the time, it said it'd made much of Slay the Spire II in Unity, but would still migrate to a different engine if Unity stuck to its guns.

While that might be true, 2023 was an year filled with great games and yet Hogwarts Legacy is first, and Call of Duty is 2nd.

As for notable games of the year that weren't flop (in no particular order):

  • Spider-Man 2
  • Baldur's Gate 3
  • Diablo IV
  • FF 16
  • Armored Core 6
  • Street Fighter 6
  • Alan Wake 2

Not to mention:

  • Resident Evil 4 Remake
  • Dead Space Remake

They may not be to your taste, but they all rated very highly. I haven't included any Nintendo games, cause they don't share digital data. Their numbers are based only on physical sales.

Can Bethesda get it shut down? For copyright stuff?

Hope they improve the graphics. The current version is quite blocky.

Interesting article. They also talk about indies and different consoles:

Having heard some indies at GDC talking about skipping Xbox and PlayStation because there just isn't much of an audience for indies on those platforms if you can't get included in their subscription services, we ask Lowrie about how healthy the console ecosystems are for indies these days.

He echoes the indies we heard from in acknowledging that Switch stands apart from Xbox and PlayStation on this front.

"They've created an ecosystem – and therefore a user base – that is really open to interesting concepts and gameplay ideas," Lowrie says of Nintendo. "The PlayStation and Xbox user, for as long as I've been doing this
there's a lot of people that still like indie games, don't get me wrong. Cult of the Lamb has done very well on those platforms. But I think the large majority of those people buy those platforms to show off what they can really do. They're looking at Destiny. They're looking at Helldivers. They're looking at Starfield. They definitely push those.

"I think the platforms themselves all are really strong believers in indie games. They really do push them. I think on the other end, the consumers – as big as they might be – there's still a smaller portion than we would like on Xbox and PlayStation that are open to looking at a pixel art platformer and going, 'I'll give this a shot.'"

Maybe a new head of department?

“We’re literally stuck in a system where funding decides what gets made, everything that’s successful tightens the noose, and everything that’s unsuccessful is used as proof that we shouldn’t make more like it,” Ismail noted.

"So if you think things are bad now, wait until you see what’s coming, because as things get forced under larger & larger money-umbrellas for not being able to compete with Genshin/DFO/League /Roblox/etc., they’ll have to care more about promising money with whatever they do make."

Basically, he is saying nothing can beat free-to-play games like Genshin and Roblox, which are earning tons through micro transactions. As for the quote in title, the second part says if you fail it will also lead to fewer games funded in genre.

He also says:

So I don’t know what the answer is & I’ve been looking for it as if my career depends on it because it kinda does. What I do know is that to get better, it’ll either take a full collapse of the industry, or “shorter games with worse graphics made by people paid more to work less”

In other words, as a gamer (specially if you don't play those free-to-play games), there is nothing you can do.

As a PS5 owner, if Xbox stops giving them competition, that would be very bad for all of us.

Congratulations on your game release!

That Mushy guy looks really cute. Hope to see more games in Mushy universe 😀

No. Just no.

I don't want any part of my brain to start hoping for another well-made, top-down Fallout game. That time has unfortunately passed.

Yeah, III was basically coined to differentiate one-man / low budget indies from high budget indies like Hades, which was made by 20+ people, and a much higher budget, when compared to "normal" indies.

Headline makes it sound like he is some kind of villain revealing his evil plot.

If it's only Starfield than yes, but if they are bringing other games too, then that could be different story. Let's see what happens.

Oh. Good luck with the next try!

Oooh, 1.0 is finally out. Hoping it comes to consoles too. As a big Sanderson fan, want to give it a try.

Maybe we need a new idiom for that... What about "stuck in the stems"? It's after root, but before fruit / flowers / leaves.

From the article: (SPOILER - in case your client doesn't auto-hide them)

::: spoiler Lines changed The amended line is right at the very end of Remake, after the party battles Sephiroth. We see the paths of Zack and Aerith cross, seemingly from different worlds or timelines, as rain begins to fall.

Aerith looks upwards and states: "I miss it... the steel sky."

The steel sky in question is the plate the city of Midgar is built on, which the slums lie beneath. It's poetic, then, and calls back to an earlier line from Aerith that also references the steel sky. Moreover, it parallels both the party and the player's journey - the adventure will continue in Rebirth, out in the open world and no longer beneath the "steel sky" of Midgar.

Except now that line has been changed to: "This sky...I don't like it."

Ostensibly, the new line has the same purpose and has a similar meaning. Aerith still looks upwards and comments on the sky, after all. :::

If we accept this, then RPG is also not a genre.

This looks pretty good.

Really excited for it!

I like you. 😀

Thanks for the feedback!

More than enough time to play through Stardew Valley couple of more times.

There has been no official announcements, its just rumors, leaks and speculations.

No worries. Of all the games mentioned above Starfield was probably my most anticipated. But it let people down.

Ah, it's finally out!

I have been keeping an eye on it, hope it comes to consoles.

I prefer AR over VR. AR can do tons of things, and you are aware of your surroundings too.

Though, for gaming, VR makes more sense, but I don't see it becoming dominant way of playing games any time soon. Maybe when we reach the point of full-body immersion like Matrix, or Sword Art Online.

I'll probably get it on PS5, don't have a gaming PC, or any PC that can run anything released after Age of Empires 2 (the original one) 😀 .

Just looked it up, PS have a complete pack with all the DLC/Expansions, but it's full price (59.99) and apparently doesn't go on sale...

How's the game when playing Solo?

Oooh, MUDs! I used to play 1 or two, don't even remember their name now...

I came here to see if the show is good enough that I should start watching it. I think I don't have to worry about it now.

Crispety Crunchety sounds so much nicer than soft and mushy! Back to machine language it is!

That's a serious problem in AAA development these days. Hopefully they can find a way to improve it.

AI can probably help with it, not as a way to replace humans but to complement and help them get things faster.

Call of Duty always release near the end, but is still the number 1 game every year.

Hope they patch the Switch version too.

I think this has been there policy since the start. Why do you consider it shooing themselves in the foot?

I think the issue is there wasn't as much help available.

Also, according to the post, your mic or anything won't be recorded, just the raw game footage, though it will have any notifications that may popup, like chat message or trophy. Not to mention, the video will be reviewed by moderators before being added to Game Help.
