streamers are currently being forced to reckon with their profitability — or lack thereof.

Netflix's 2023 2nd quarter revenue: 8.1 billion dollars BTW

It's not just "some guy", it's a translation layer developer posting all of his findings on his git: https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/commit/88e4f300cc0b5b6f0880c1233d562cf506b546fb

It's also verified by Proton users noting a marked increase in performance with just a code commit. I'd urge anyone not to listen to this troll and go have a look.

I'm eagerly awaiting the radio silence from all the people blaming it on obsolete hardware lol

Overall I like the game though, it has a lot of very entertaining ideas.

How about Prowlarr too? The site looks great

It looks like they do tracker requests through their discord: https://discord.com/channels/264387956343570434/1066174962622287874

I have an antenna and a self-hosted DVR and it's awesome. What's not awesome is that networks are attempting to weasel DRM into ATSC 3.0 broadcasts and get rid of ATSC 1.0 broadcasts to eliminate third party tuners: https://www.techhive.com/article/2009693/nextgen-tv-drm-puts-future-of-the-over-the-air-dvr-in-doubt.html

To attribute this most recent failure to an overabundance of hardware variety is a joke. This issue persists on all Nvidia and Intel cards. Why? Because it's an oversight pertaining to one thing they all share in common: their shared interaction with DirectX.

Let me repeat myself for the people in the back. The number of items they had to account for with this failure is one. One API.

Apple developed lightning. It had the same transfer rate as USB 2.0 which had been out for over a decade. It wasn't about being "stubborn", it was about being proprietary.

Is there someone who solves my subtitle issue?

Yes! Bazarr is specifically made to make this task completely automated. Other people have mentioned Radarr and Sonarr, there's also prowlarr/jackett for adding uploaders to grab from. I'm using this setup, along with overseerr to handle grab requests, and as soon as I click a button to request media it usually shows up in 10-20 minutes on the server with subtitles. If you're interested in setting any of this up feel free to DM me!

Alternatively some great folks have been working on something potentially even better that uses Debrid to speed up the time it takes for the media to be on your server: https://lemmy.world/post/6196363

I have barely looked into this and I really couldn't say anything for sure, but you might be able to use that+Bazarr to accomplish the same thing.

I could see a case made for the test units having much better heat transfer and once mass produced the silicon lottery inevitably made some chips run hotter. But those variances are not massive, so it would've already had to run pretty hot. IDK

Yeah those claims are a slanderous distraction. The Patriot Act gave the government legal jurisdiction to spy on citizens because the terms were so vague, they just didn't reveal that was part of the intent at the time. Also the draft of the bill that was presented to Congress to vote on had omitted several, incredibly powerful words that mysteriously appeared in later versions of the bill once it was passed. What a weird coincidence. /s

But part of Snowden's whistleblowing was unveiling that the NSA was spying on citizens before the Patriot Act was passed. The Bush administration had already made an executive order for Congress to sign off on it. Which by the way, Nancy Pelosi was a part of. Even more reason to dislike her.

Edit to clarify: I learned all of this from a documentary I watched a ways back, but I don't remember the name of it. I may be slightly misremembering some of the facts, take that as you may.

🤦

If you went over to the /funny sub and complained about the person in the post being funny what kind of a response would you expect?

Net income doesn't equal profitability either. Companies scale their costs, including stock buybacks, based on revenue. https://ycharts.com/companies/NFLX/stock_buyback

Not the fucking port in the phone though. Way to ignore that.

I'm skeptical that this happens anywhere remotely near frequently enough to condemn the entire technology. Never seen it, and never heard about it until just now.

“Android” isn’t a single maker. Sure galaxies and pixels are USB3.0 or 3.1. The vast majority of cheapo Android phones use 2.0.

I would love for you to find a single noteworthy android manufacturer that is not in this list. *Edited because this link was not working correctly on desktop site

If you're talking about more than a 50 mile radius, then yeah it's probably not realistic. But I'm watching and recording from stations 50 miles out with no issues.

Edit: Just for reference I'm using a passive antenna https://www.amazon.com/Antennas-Direct-ClearStream-Multi-Directional-Adjustable/dp/B00SVNKT86?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1

I can see truth to either position presented in these comments, but I don't like being a fence sitter. That being said, I would think making it available but not mandatory would satisfy both opinions, right? Making it unavailable altogether is a move that seems to have an ulterior motive.

It sources literally 17K comments on the Apple forums complaining about connectors breaking.

Lightning cables are notorious for breaking. https://you-well.co.uk/why-apple-cables-break-so-easily-what-to-do/

So what is there left to say about it...that you don't have to look at the port before plugging a lightning cable in? Is that your justification for saying the USB standard sucked?

Most USB-C cables today are usb 2.0 still anyway so they have the same spec as Lightning.

Modern PCs have 3.0 ports. Androids have 3.0 ports. 3.0 cables are available at any online store. What the actual fuck are you talking about?

Then you're completely irrational, and there's really nothing else to say.

What's that Apple?

Bark bark bark

You pushed USBC down the well?

But I understand what you are saying. You think downvotes should be used to express disagreement, just like upvotes are used to express agreement.

Never once said or implied this.

I asked what you would expect.

Qbit+VPN to grab, radarr/sonarr to catalogue, overseerr to request, and plex/jellyfin to watch.

I agree with the first half of your statement completely, but as for killing it outright I would think turning it over to FOSS developers would be a less incendiary solution. As many people are saying, it hardly competes with other software that is already available.

How normalized does hatred have to be for anyone to think that this defense isn't inherently despicable:

...falsity of the Israeli army's claim that the Palestinian civilians subjected to torture in the presence of Israeli civilians were fighters involved in the October 7 attack

Hamas prisoners or not this is pure, unfettered zealotry and it's embarrassing that these soldiers thought this would be a credible justification.

Edit: welp I did some digging and I don't know what to believe now:

https://unwatch.org/un-human-rights-office-amplifies-blood-libel-by-terrorist-sympathizers/

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor’s leadership routinely posts antisemitic and pro-Hamas content online.

The chairman of Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor’s Board is none other than Richard Falk—the former UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine who has hailed Hamas’ “spirit of resistance,” justified Palestinian violence, and claimed that Hamas aims for “long-term peaceful co-existence.” While he was Special Rapporteur, Falk was at the center of multiple controversies that led to continuous calls for his resignation by the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, and others. According to the U.S. State Department, this was because of his “despicable and deeply offensive comments, particularly his anti-Semitic blog postings, his endorsement of 9/11 conspiracy theories, and his deplorable statements with regard to the terrorist attacks in Boston.” Falk had first called the Boston bombing a false flag and then justified it as a form of “resistance” that was “bound” to result from U.S. “military undertakings.” Even Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had to come out several times to publicly denounce Falk’s statements. Falk’s antisemitism has even gotten him fired from a Human Rights Watch committee.

I don't know, you can't put anything past people. Remember that whole "charge your phone in the microwave" campaign? LOL

I just decided to bite the bullet on paying for a Synology DS920+ and I don't regret it at all. For media hosting on my scale, 4K direct or 1080p transcodes to 6 or less concurrent streams, it does everything I need it to do and it has pretty decent software.

There's nothing to discuss. You think that being openly antagonistic about the subject of a sub doesn't warrant rebuke. It's not a rational position.

By the standard of being playable, I get that. But I'm not here to mince words. When you zoom out and look at the big picture, this one incorrectly used driver call turns a 3080ti into a 2060. A $1000 difference in performance. Defending Bethesda is just going to make future issues worse and worse.

Speculative claims and vitriolic anecdotes are not convincing. There are other factors here that could explain these discrepancies- if they exist at all, because again this comment is so inflammatory that it reeks of personal bias, bad faith, or fabrication- such as: how kids treat gaming peripherals as opposed to phones, placement of the charging port on the device, placement of the items in your house, quality of materials in the device (remember you're comparing phones to old, $60-$100 items), your perspective focusing more on negative experiences than positive, etc.

What the fuck are you talking about? Lightning cable specs were identical to micro USB.

I'm so sick of the effects of fiduciary responsibility to shareholders. It's like we're all now victims of the evolution of manifest destiny: manifest funding.

I didn't realize people can't do a 10 second google search on their own. 🙄

Net income isn't the whole story anyways, especially when this article points out that one of their costs is lobbying for a cause that isn't necessary. They're raking in billions of dollars every year.

Other people have kind of touched on this already, but clients prioritize connections based on stability and speed so things like seedboxes often get utilized more than your average home client to saturate a downloading connection.

I also noticed that my max upload speed is much less (e.g. 2MB/s) than what I get with speedtest (e.g. 7MB/s)

Again, other people have touched on some bottlenecks that can cause this (y'all are good lol), but clients also have a bit of connection overhead that will ultimately affect your maximum upload speed to peers at a varying degree. Here's some details, if it helps:

Overhead- Additional data used and required for communication and coordination between sender and receiver that is not part of the payload data actually being transferred.

Gamers will never be mature or have realistic expectations. They cannot fathom that people are enjoying a thing they don't like, and they're very vocal about it, it's petty, really.

You want people to have more mature discussions but then disavow any nuance in the same breath. Do you not see how this is a contradiction?

I think every time I've heard about the plex smart TV app it has not been positive lol

Gonna be honest, I don't know the exact logistics behind plex transcoding and what resources it may or may not use on the client and I've never tried a smart TV app as a client. I'm really not in a place to comment on it. But I can attest to having no issues when transcoding lossless formats to windows or the Nvidia shield.

I have not experienced this with any lossless transcodes and my friends streaming remote haven't said anything about it. What client are you using to watch media?
