Scrolling “all” for increased exposure it’s like… news article, kitty cat, meme, anti-Reddit post, GAPING HOLES, puppy…
Hiding out from corporate centralized social media - here to talk about the things I like, including but not limited to:
Cigars [owner @Tobacconist] // Videogames // Camping & Backpacking // Cycling // Tech // Cameras // Movies // Working in the film industry [camera department] // Plants // Birds // Comedy // Music // Television // Art
Scrolling “all” for increased exposure it’s like… news article, kitty cat, meme, anti-Reddit post, GAPING HOLES, puppy…
Seriously… there are so many things considered occasionally NSFW. Curse words, nudity, violence, suicide, even on Reddit anything tobacco related. I am personally very tolerant of all content, but I have lines with both gore and porn that I just don’t want the content mixed in with my casual browsing. I wish everyone would just take it to lemmynsfw so I could filter it appropriately, but due to relaxed instance rules even a generally tame instance like kbin.social constantly has new specific groups for me to ban. Just today it has beenfurry cartoon porn, feet, celebs…
Reddit never got this right either, but it seems like such an easy problem to solve. There’s R-rated and there’s porn. Not sure if it’s a result of people being too prude or too loosey goosey, but it seems very obvious to me.
Right, you’re kind of arguing my point here. NSFW is not sufficient for most people’s casual browsing experience and there should be additional designations, or just one, one for “porn,” which would solve 99% of unwanted material on most people’s feeds
I don’t disagree - but just during this whole Ukraine / Russia thing I’ve found myself subscribing to some things where I’m likely to see footage from the field. To me this is just informational and in some ways important to see, despite the fact that it is difficult to take. Horrors of war and all that. That’s a normal part of my daily news consumption while someone in a dog costume getting railed in an elevator at a convention is uh… well it is what it is, and I don’t want it.
You don’t think there’s a middle ground here where maybe NSFW is far too restrictive in most modern platforms, especially Reddit where almost every profile that discusses drugs or sex or cigarettes or whatever is marked NSFW, and maybe just “porn” which is literally illegal to display to minors in the USA? I like drugs, I like sex, I got no problem talking about any of it. But if I want to see a complete feed there’s no room to even ASK for an option to see everything that isn’t porn?
You wouldn’t think this concept would be so controversial or difficult to understand but hey it’s the internet
What I’m saying is that there’s “NSFW” which includes many things and then there’s “porn” which deserves a separate designation for those of us that are here to see literally anything but porn.
Majority have been in favor for a long time. Will take a decade or more to restore the rights though. Democracy is fun :)
If there is a non-zero percent chance of jail time, just score at home. It’s not worth it. Jail sucks.
Have a good night my fellow internet person. Not worth the argument. Most people are able to see the difference here and it’s in line with how most people use social media in most places most of the time. I don’t want to see snuff films either but that’s not clogging up half the “all” feed requiring me to block multiple subs per day.

Thanks @ernest - we all appreciate it!
Yeah, to get regular folks (like, even the nerdy ones for the most part) you have to just drop the jargon entirely. It’s social media / community building, don’t talk about it like a grad school coding project.
It was annoying with streaming cable replacements but I got it, I was replacing one overpriced subscription with a few lower priced ones. Now it’s mostly break even on that. I’m happy to have YoutubeTV, I split it with two friends and it works for me…
But lately it has been software subscriptions that have pushed me over the edge. I now have AllTrails, Strava, Adobe Photoshop / Lightroom, Silverstack XT, Xero, Mailfence, so on and so on… some days feels like my brain is gonna pop when the charges go through.
You know, not EVERYTHING has to be discussed in a way that puts your interest in kink on display for the world 👀
Got one for Christmas and it had been a revolutionary improvement for my pooping life. Now every time I travel or have to poo in public I spend the whole time pouting and thinking wistfully about my bidet at home.
Because there are so many instances and so many communities across those instances that I can’t possibly subscribe to everything I want to see, it’s nice to view “all” while figuring out the groups I want to see. I’d miss a lot if I limited it to “subscribed.”
AI will replace all of us at our jobs.
With Bermuda grass.
This was why I fell off with math in high school and never got my mojo back. My mental math skills were above average but once discipline and showing work and “proofs” (especially proofs) came into play I was out
This is one of those things where every time I start thinking about it I just... stop thinking about it and remember to keep an eye on what my son is up to on the internet.
Nice try compadre
This has been consensus across most of Reddit. Most people don’t care, and won’t care. So, those of us that do just need to be here making the best of it and not worrying about Reddit. Once there is comparable amounts of content in the Fediverse, people will end up joining for the same reason they joined Reddit.
I initially signed up for Reddit after I kept getting sent links to Reddit. It was just a place that had information I was interested in.
Right now, telling people to join because it will eventually be good and it’s ethically good doesn’t work because there’s not much here and most people are fine using commercial software.
However once there is a wealth of information here, say someone publishes a very good guide for self-hosting and you have a friend that wants to self-host a Plex server, you link them to a lemmy or kbin guide. They will naturally be compelled to join and ask questions if they have them.
It takes time. Just let those of us that are ideologically driven create content good enough that everyone else ends up coming for their own reasons.
Uh… I don’t know, read the rest of the thread where a lot of people have detailed exactly why it’s too vague and just simply separating “porn” from the rest of it would be helpful.
You’re not this thick and I know it.
If you start drafting the intro / explainer in VSCode so you can easily reference things in the code you already failed.
This just really isn’t true for the vast majority of folks. There is a mostly agreed upon consensus for these things. Visit pornhub or whatever if you’re having trouble identifying the difference between what’s a little risqué and what’s porn.
I’m terrified of bears. A little excess moisture? A low level fear at most.

That’s what I’ve done now for similar reasons. 15-year-old and girlfriend both likely to get a peak at the page while I’m otherwise innocuously scrolling. Just afraid I’ll miss out on otherwise tame content that has been flagged NSFW out of abundance of caution.
Loving it - federation is great, hardly ever even know which instance I'm interacting with from kbin, which is a good thing as it means the federation is working and mostly seamless. Can't wait for some apps to come out and streamline the experience, hopefully some more people will start coming here to populate a lot of the communities that I'd like to participate or lurk in. Right now there's a lot of... uh... shouting into the void trying to fill the space. I'm posting way more than I ever did on reddit just because like... somebody has to do it, right?
Like, I get it dude. You like drugs and porn. It’s literally your username. In the world I imagine, you would have both the “Show NSFW content” box checked as well as the “Display pornographic content” box, you’d have every box checked I’m sure because you get on here after taking two xans and a puff of A-PiHP and jerk it for hours, which is FINE! I don’t care.
MOST PEOPLE on here want to see new content outside of what they have subscribed to because the Fediverse is huge and it’s impossible to subscribe to everything you want to see. Most of those people aren’t trying to watch porn, and would prefer to filter it out. To have that option, without also removing everything else that might be deemed “NSFW” would be PRETTY COOL.
NOBODY is trying to fuck up your hobby or take anything away from you. It’s just a slightly altered feed based on some common sense practices.
I have artful nude line drawings in my house for all to see. People post most-of-butt pics on Instagram all day. That’s different from jack-off material.
Stunts was my favorite game for years, the completely bonkers physics were more fun than actually trying to drive good.
No Dreamcast in that pic?
For everything else outside of gore and porn I like browsing with image previews enabled and “all” instead of “subscribed,” and I want to see things that at least on Reddit were forced to be marked as nsfw. Maybe in the Fediverse NSFW is only limited to those things and I can turn it off, which I have, but I do not want to miss content from medium-adult posts just because of my preference to not jerk at all times of day.
For real I’m buying these for the kids then eating like five packs at a time on a regular basis
Use your eyes and your brain and re-read and realize that you are just not actually understanding anything.
This album was a frequent listen for me when I was in high school, every once in a while I go back to it and it still holds up.
Bumping this because it’s really cool, I want to buy it, and I’m plotting a DIY autoharp right now.
It used to make sense, like… people that need no provocation to go into something they won’t shut up about, or things like that. Lately it has just stopped being used in any way that actually makes the “Nobody:” part matter.
