Just a rock-licker who loves all things sci-fi, boardgames, and growing my own food, especially heirloom tomatoes.

Hah! You must broaden your horizons beyond a basic red tomato.

Ooooh them's fighting words. Have you tried a burger with a homegrown tomato? Pretty night and day, might just change your mind.

If it's truly tasteless and dissolves completely in water, yet can bind like eggs, that opens up a huge range of applications. Really hope they're able to scale up production.

Good to know, I've edited my latest post to add description text.

Last year I went bungee jumping for my birthday, and it was one of the most unique experiences of my life.

I've been skydiving before, but I don't think my caveman hind brain was able to comprehend the danger. Jumping off a bridge however was at a recognizable height, so the moment I leapt, that part of my brain screamed "OH GOD WE'RE DEAD!"

I chalked it up to first time nerves, but with the second jump, same mental scream. Never felt anything like it in my life, and will probably never do it again, but I'm sure glad I tried it.

For me, there's a Mexican restaurant down the road from my house that does what they call Super Fries, which are loaded with carne asada (a surprising amount for the price), cheese, sour cream, guacamole, refried beans, pico de gallo, and red and green salsa.

An absolute gut bomb, but delicious as hell.

Heck yeah, I've been trying to post both here and on a couple of my communities at .world. I've mostly been going through my old, never-posted photos for some good OC, but think I might also start scavenging my ex-reddit account. Anything for content and to keep up the momentum!

I usually use as little water as I can get away with, as the resulting pasta water is much more starchy and works better in sauces.

Ugh, I'll be on the venting side. I drew the short straw and had to do two weeks of night shifts (and I'm a early bird, NOT a night owl). I slept nearly 40 out of the 48 hours last weekend, and I expect I'll do the same this weekend.

[Vegan] and [Vegetarian] are quick ones that come to mind. Maybe also like the region of the cuisine? i.e. [Chinese], [Peruvian], or maybe the type of meal [Breakfast], [Appetizer].

The little moth buddy I posted about was really fun. There's been a surprising amount of interesting bugs where I've been working the past couple weeks, last night one of my coworkers spotted something that looked like a cross between a spider and a cricket, which I've yet to be able to identify.

Really really good balsamic, the stuff that costs like $150 for a few ounces. I watched a video series about the making of it and taste tests against regular balsamic, and the desire to try it has been floating around my head.

Huh, how odd. Not what I would have expected, but in that case, go for flavor!

About 4-5 tablespoons.

Honestly, I joined beehaw knowing that the admins would run it like a benevolent dictatorship. It's their instance, their servers, their time and effort, and I respect that.

you will enjoy what we are imposing, period

Yep, if you want to make your own community your own way, there's plenty of other instances that offer that.

Yep, chips are often calling my name, especially sour flavors. Lime, salt and vinegar, dill pickle, all good stuff.

Nope, not any harder than making standard tomato sauce!

I'm strangely good at wiggling my nostrils, way better than anyone else I've met. No luck wiggling my ears though.

Interesting, what about a version with a little bit of both, for both the taste and smell?

Yeah exactly, which is why I've kept my mouth shut, but I did think Internet strangers might appreciate the humor.

Out of curiosity I googled "lesbian geologists," and while I didn't find an organization or anything, it did lead me to Ammonite, a 2020 film about the first female paleontologist Mary Anning. The film depicts her in a lesbian relationship, and although there's no historical basis, there's also no evidence of her ever being in a heterosexual relationship, leaving it open to question.

I thought it an interesting coincidence that I've just recently finished reading Ammonite, an excellent book by Nicola Griffith about a planet where a virus has wiped out all men, and the exploration of the women-only society that then developed over the centuries.

Ooooh yum, that's also an excellent "I'm being fat" meal. There's a restaurant near me that does Korean/Mexican fusion, and their "kimchichanga" with bulgogi is amazing.

It used to be popular among European landowners to have a garden hermit as part of the landscaping decor.

One of the things I appreciate about the internet is the exposure to views different from my own. Though I don't agree with many of this author's points, it is interesting to see their perspective.

I think the comment by Rididill does a fair job of dissecting the post, and is worth a read in it's rebuttal.

I agree. I'm not one of the silly purists that populate r/grilledcheese, other ingredients can go great in a grilled cheese, as long as the cheese is still the star of the show.

I've kept RIF, but set an app usage time limit of 0 minutes. So it's still there, but permanently greyed out, like a memorial to what once was.

One small suggestion: shuffle the existing communities slightly, from

-Animals and Pets

-Nature and Gardening

to

-Pets

-Animals and Nature

-Gardening

Thanks for taking community feedback!

Heck yeah, I've always imagined being able to buy a ranch and put down houses for my family and friends who'd like to join. Grow a bunch of food, have game nights, and just generally relax and enjoy life.

That is so cool! I've thought of getting a tattoo of a tomato plant, I love how yours looks.

An excellent read, and I was glad to hear that the community had been smart and saved/invested profits from the crab harvest during the bountiful years. Hopefully they're able to pivot their economy to be more diverse and secure.

Fair point, I have flown too close to the sun before, and used so little water that my pasta came out with undercooked clumped spots. So reduce water volume with care.

That's a good one, I might start doing the same.

Mental breaks. Scheduling yourself for a day of literally doing nothing.

On a smaller scale, I love working in my garden, and on days where I can't seem to keep my mind on task, I'll just stop trying and go pull weeds for an hour. Really zen and helps me feel better.

I love the flavor of cucumbers, but for overall versatility, I'd have to be a zucchini. Sauteed, roasted, baked into bread, zucchini just has more body and is actually filling.

Honestly I think it's good where they left it. No spoilers, but it's a satisfying arc for who ends up on top, and I feel like that last evening with the siblings and then the board meeting the next day was the perfect encapsulation of their whole relationship.
