Good point, but it looks like it's still ongoing.

The fact this is even necessary makes me want to shit a brick.

"Do you want to make an online account?" No. "Okay, please set up your local account."

That should be it. And honestly, even that's egregious to me. Signing into online bullshit should be opt-in, not opt-out. Thank goodness I don't use Windows anymore, finally wiped the last Windows machine in my house this past week.

Yeah, don’t accept trash from strangers.

Shit like this is why my LG C1 is restricted to LAN access only in my router (local network for automation purposes) and can't communicate with the internet.

I haven't even looked honestly, just looked up the account. I don't really care whether they fill them or not, I only go back to reddit now for /r/sbcgaming and /r/ereader since those communities haven't really picked up here yet (though maybe they will in time).

Edit - I just looked. It seems to be a lot of people saying "I wouldn't be a good mod, no thanks" or "let me be a mod, I'll totally let people post lewd pics," "pick me, I'll reinstate the old mods," "I'll gladly abuse my power, sure" and stuff of that variety. So no, doesn't look like it's a big rush to fill the spots. Mostly a lot of snark for the majority of them. MaleFashionAdvice seemed to be an exception with people looking to take the mod spot and they were all ridiculously downvoted.

Edit 2 - I especially liked this one:

u/spez can take his IPO and shove it up his ass. Join us at Lemmy. We can build it into something corporate dickwads can't take from us.

This article pisses me off. Back in late 2020 I went to a dealership to buy a new car, very high credit score, 1/3 cash down, and qualified for a 0% interest deal that was going on at the time.

The dealership came at me with the most bullshit offers, tried to get me to take dealership financing at 4%, then 3.5, then 3% at a longer loan duration and acted like they were doing me a favor the whole time. Finance guy was being such a dickhead about it even the sales guy started getting pissed at him.

Took nearly 6 freaking hours to close the deal. Finally got my 0% offer and expected financing/cost because it was 20 minutes to closing time and I was like “fuck it, I’ll go check out your competitors tomorrow,” keys in hand, walking out the door. Sales guy literally chased after me and stopped me at the car to say the finance dude finally caved.

Fucking scumbag stuff. Dealership changed their name a year later and I don’t wonder why.

After seeing this post and the article, I just blocked my LG C1 from WAN at my router. LAN still available for automation purposes, but fuck letting that thing out to the internet now. Funny enough, it turns on faster, and no more notification splash at the bottom. Nice.

This is why you should not trust them regarding Recall. They will not let it go. It will be forced on you eventually.

I'm not down to subscribe ongoing (because I definitely will forget and think some fraud popped up), but I made a one time donation, and will likely make additional donations in the coming months and weeks. I'd love for this platform to thrive and have no qualms throwing up a few bucks for that here and there.

Generally underscore _ works best for this, and should be viable for both OSes.

Presumably because the saline quantities were tracked and documented just like the fentanyl was. Tap water isn't a medical supply. Still completely fucking heinous either way.

I have full faith in Tactical Adventures. Solasta is the closest translation of tabletop D&D to CRPG ever made IMO. All they need is a better than indie budget and permissions to use the full license and content instead of just the SRD.

“The incident is widely characterized by critics as an example of mishandled manhandled customer service.”

Just a typo.

Nah, I bought it because there wasn’t going to be a better deal, I did my research for weeks and months prior and that 0% popped up in the middle of reviewing options.

I think they tried the push because it was the last day I could get it before the deal expired. The zero % financing was via the manufacturer, not dealership.

Face it, they can do whatever they want with your computer and you’re powerless to stop them.

Not my computer. They can't do shit if it's not installed.

My only complaint with Dell is they use shit fans that sounds like jet engines.

There will always be people who seek to challenge themselves.

Others will want more money than is included with their UBI. What on earth would be wrong with people having a little more, as opposed to so many struggling, needing roommates, and so on? I imagine with an extra 1k-2k in their pocket monthly, a lot more people would buy or build housing, and a lot of service industries would boom with all the additional potentially disposable income.

Or how about people being able to retire, like actually retire, without stress. We could lower the retirement age, or people could retire independently from government assistance, leading to more available jobs for younger people as more roles transition away due to automation.

And frankly, I honestly don't see anything wrong with some portion of the populace just living on UBI and enjoying life if that's how they want to do things. Nothing wrong with people being happier, less stressed, and potentially mentally and/or physically healthier for it.

Shit like this is why my LG C1 is restricted to LAN access only in my router (local network for automation purposes) and can't communicate with the internet.

Eh, I like Plexamp’s features, but the app is not exactly free, more “freemium.” All the compelling features that you’d want to use it for are behind the subscription paywall. DJ, track and album radio, the unique features aren’t free.

Also, at least on iOS the app feels clunky and sluggish with long delays when skipping, scrubbing, playing, and pausing. (EDIT - turns out this is specifically an issue when using Airplay, it's fine for local playback).

My wife uses Plexamp on desktop (Mac and PC) and it seems good there. I personally tend to use the WiiM app for Wiim mini with Asset UPnP server.

I bought a Brother laser printer some years back for like $120 and am still working on the starter toner cartridge. HP can fuck right off with this.

Here you go: steam://controllerconfig/413080/2866090215

Paste that steam link in a browser while Steam is open and it will pull up the controller config.

Control mappings have face buttons and R1/R2 as attacks, L1/L2 as button layer modifiers, Joystick mouse and more. F-keys are on the d-pad, and most mouse related functions are active while holding L1. Pressing L2+R2 heals. Back button is your "interact. L1 + R3 switches between "action" camera and regular mouse mode for aiming. Action camera is better for combat, and is the mode I use like 90% of the time. Dodge is on R3. L3 swaps weapons. There's also key combos for all the mounts, special action abilities (N key, on L2+back)... basically, everything you could possibly want to do in-game, there's a controller way to do it. You may need to remap some of the mount buttons, I forget if I did custom mappings for some of those, as I have a lot of mounts (everything except roller beetle and gryffon).

Hope it works for you. I think it's a great config, but my perspective may be skewed since I'm highly accustomed to it from muscle memory and using it for years (with Xpadder even, before steam controller mapping was a thing). I've used this config for every single class in the game and dialed it in so I can play literally any class without issues, including ones that have a number of aiming skills like engineer and elementalist. Actually, elementalist is a blast for this, dpad was perfect for switching elements compared to fumbling with F-keys.

Not even gonna front, I actually like the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie.

I'm fairly certain I'm ND, but never fully knew if it was Autism (Aspergers?) or ADHD. Mom never followed up on the testing when I was a kid (and neither did I as an adult), but autism runs high in my family, and I have low and high functioning extended family.

Yeah, definitely not ADHD. I have issues, stims, triggers, but I'm functional, and can definitely form habits, and don't necessarily experience the issues noted here.

0% was a brand-wide deal (manufacturer, not dealership) to get rid of previous year stock, there was no cash back option on it. Plus, there’s no lower rate than zero, and best I could get with a different loan was 2.5%. Though I did reference said pre-qualification during negotiation when they made the crap offers. Made it clear I wasn’t walking out with a dealer loan.

Microsoft will just enable it via an update once all the fervor dies down. They haven’t abandoned the plan, and won’t, not while your data is pure profit for them.

Hell with them, no more Windows PCs in my home. I’m sick to death of everyone and their mother trying to both advertise to me and sell my data without my permission and at zero benefit to me.

I've already joined several communities relevant to my interests and have been posting and commenting in some (I'm still more of a lurker than an active user, I might only make a post and/or a few comments a day, or even a week, but I'm here). In case you might be interested:

It's been 12+ years for me.

I haven't left completely, as there a a few subreddits that are important for me for either work or hobbies, but I only browse those now and don't go to the front page or out of specific purpose driven communities that don't have active equivalents on Lemmy. My time on reddit is down to a fraction of what it was prior to June, and I hope I can drop it altogether at some point as more communities grow here.

Seriously? No Mother 3? No F-Zero games with three to choose from? No Boktai? And Summon Night Swordcraft Story didn’t make it either.

Plus, three Sonic Advance games, multiple Metroid and Zelda titles, but couldn’t spare a slot for Mega Man Battle Network anywhere?

At least it wasn’t full of Pokémon. Reads like a top 40 radio station set list, but for gaming.

I still use Reddit everyday. But they have lost my trust. I am now actively looking for other places and other networks.

Same here. My reddit account is now only for a select few communities that haven't made much of a foothold in federated space yet here on Lemmy. But my reddit interaction is down, and I'm honestly considering deleting my account there given the total shitshow going on.

I don't think it's a place I want to go back to, especially given how hostile the place can be overall. Arguing is engagement. Lemmy has been a breath of fresh air in terms of civil and engaging discussion. It's actually like what reddit used to be over a decade ago.

For me I’d say retro is Gen 6 and below, but specifically including the Dreamcast and PS2, but probably excluding the Xbox, and maybe GameCube.

The Xbox was the first console with internal storage built in and both the Xbox and GameCube used shader pipelining aka modern GPU architecture. Basically, I feel if shader compilation is a requirement for emulating it, I don’t consider it retro.

You’re not likely to do that for $150. You might be able to pull an old Dell Precision T5500 tower with a weak Xeon on eBay for cheap and refit it with more ram, better CPU and cheap non-redundant storage for $200 - $250.

For sake of power requirements though, seriously consider your use case and needs. You can get by pretty well with cheap mini-PCs like Intel NUCs or AMD minis like Beelink for pretty cheap and just cluster them with something like Proxmox to scale out instead of up when you need additional resources. This will be reasonably priced and keep the power bill and noise levels down.

True, and it’s why I’m on the fence about GameCube. It’s kinda retro but kinda not. The weird controller and small disc sizes make it feel retro, but it has modern-ish dual stage triggers, and a PowerPC architecture with a modern GPU design, double precision floats, OOE compute.

Meanwhile the PS2 was still weird, included the PS1 chip, and mostly just had a massive fill rate to make up for its shortcomings.

You need to install the unfinished business mod to really make Solasta shine. It’s… unofficially endorsed by the devs (in the sense that the UB mod discord channel is hosted on the official Solasta discord). It adds races, subclasses, and more to bring the game fully in-line with tabletop options, including multi-classing.

Besides that, while the official campaign is decent enough, some custom campaigns are incredible, like full games in and of themselves, and some take more advantage of the game engine and dialogue options than the official campaign.

To me, Baldur’s Gate 3 is an interesting experiment, but in terms of gameplay it’s just not D&D. It’s a weird relationship sim with some (very) loose D&D mechanics. It has fun moments but the game is inconsistent, buggy, and generally becomes very un-fun, especially in multiplayer.

BG3 is very much a Larian game with D&D trappings, not a D&D game just made by Larian, if that makes sense.

I put something like 50-60 hours into BG3 and just couldn’t be bothered to finish it, stalled out once in act 2, and again on a second attempt in act 1. By contrast, I’ve got over 500 hours and counting in Solasta.

Edit - oh, and with regard to rations, stack up early as you can (at least 20) and from there you’ll gather plenty in the field map if you have someone with high survival. Alternate option would be to have a Ranger or dries with goodberry, and later on other classes get the create food spell.

Or you could just disable the food mechanic altogether, it’s your game.

If you have Plex pass there’s a built in auto leveling setting, but it’s not available on the free version.

Alternately foobar2000 or other tools can apply replaygain but you’ll need a tender that will actually use it. I use Asset UPnP.

PC-Engine CD version, R-Type Complete.

IMO it’s better than the original arcade version. That soundtrack is amazing.

I’ve been playing it on a gamepad since 2012. I’ll see if I can get my Steam config link for you later.

Let me tell you how I nearly downvoted the post reflexively because of the title. My bad on that, and seriously, what the fuck reddit. What utter trash.

How about Windows NoPrivacyOnlyAdsForYou Edition? Kinda rolls nicely off the tongue.

Pretty great. Had a small (1050 sq/ft) house built in a semi-rural area and live comfortably. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, was only ~$210k. Bought about $6k in points to get the interest rate at 2.25%. My mortgage is less than I was paying in rent for a ratty old single bed/bath 640 sq/ft townhome.

Plus I got out of the city. It's quiet. Night sky is beautiful out here. Just stars as far as the eye can see. I got mountain views, deer chilling outside my house. I've got one neighbor across the street and my next closest neighbor is like a quarter mile up the road. It's lovely.

Also, I don't plan on selling, but apparently the place is already worth something like 30% more than the purchase price.

Have a ton of games already, but I picked up Nuclear Blaze and Streets of Rogue on the cheap.

A week prior to the steam sale, got a good deal on River City Girls 2 and Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries on Fanatical, $15 for both together.
