When this game came out I hated it because I loved the original Call of Duty games that were super slow paced and more realistic. But eventually it became my main game playing till 4am on Xbox with friends. I miss the simplicity of COD MW.

ChatGPT has been spot on for my DDLs. I was working on a personal project and was feeling really lazy about setting up a postgres schema. I said I wanted a postgres DDL and just described the application in detail and it responded with pretty much what I would have done (maybe better) with perfect relationships between tables and solid naming conventions with very little work for me to do on it. I love it for more boilerplate stuff or sorta like you said just getting me going. Super complicated code usually doesn't work perfectly but I always use it for my DDLs now and similar now.

The real problem is when people don't realize something is wrong and then get frustrated by the bugs. Though I guess that's a great learning opportunity on its own.

Maybe not super slow paced like Squad but super slow paced compared to today's COD.

Back when you'd hold positions and provide cover fire while someone would slowly push up or flank etc. It was a much different game before MW released.

I used to play this at gaming cafes in the early/mid 2000s with my buddies before we all had proper gaming computers alongside Battlefield 1942. Definitely not confusing it for Operation Flashpoint haha.

My best guess is karma farming so they can sell them off. Probably create hundreds of accounts they can sell off. If some brand buys an account that looks reputable for $20-$100 to use it for astroturfing then that's a pretty good deal for both sides. Shitty deal for everyone else.

When I first saw the trailer I thought it was official. My heart broke when I learned the truth. Been playing Half Life since the original came out in 1998. That was an amazing Thanksgiving as a 14yr old.

I remember being at Costco with my mom and back then they had tables set up in the entrance with tons of software and game boxes and I looked at the back of the box and thought "cool! I want it!". Asked my mom if I could get it as an early Christmas gift who never said yes to that kind of thing and she said yes. I couldn't believe it.

I remember playing it and being so confused in the intro when you're on the train/tram because I couldn't figure out how to get off. I was so used to FPS games like Quake and Doom where you just clicked "new game" and were just dropped into the action or there were basic cinematics setting up the story. The build up to the action was so unique at the time it blew me away.

Sorry for the novel. Just so many fond memories of this game and I was really stoked when I saw this stupidly well done trailer haha.

Ultimately privacy is part of security so, if anything, everything you mentioned is just more reinforcements that this is a major security concern.

As someone that has been obsessed with tech since being a kid in the 90s I think the tech side of this is super cool and very exciting stuff. As a user, though, I only like this if I'm the one implementing and using it. I do not trust a mega corporation (or really any company) to "leave it locally on my computer and totally not use that data for other purposes". Right now it's supposed to be (as far as I last heard) only on your machine but we've seen EULAs and TOS' etc change many times over the years but especially over more recent years as data continues to be king and data like this is a literal bottomless diamond mine.

I know this isn't your point but it's just worries I have in addition to your points. And let's not even start about what this means for law enforcement abuse. No thanks, I'll wait for a FOSS equivalent that at least gives me and the community the opportunity to evaluate how it works.

My friends seem to prefer tolerating the official Reddit app because "there is more on Reddit". I'd rather have less for the time being and not lose my mind with that POS app not to mention fuck Reddit for what they did to 3rd party devs and users alike with that API change.

I refused to install the Reddit app out of principle other than just to check it out one time out of morbid curiosity. Without the 3rd party app creators that made apps long before Reddit did, back when Reddit wouldn't, Reddit probably wouldn't be anywhere as big as they are today. They brought new users in that likely wouldn't have used Reddit anywhere except on a mobile device and certainly not in a browser when even retail stores had their own apps.

When my 3rd party app (Boost) officially stopped working the other day I officially stopped being a Reddit user in the process. Not doing another hacky workaround to make the app work again. Time to make Lemmy my new social/forum and ditch Reddit except for when I need to do a Google search because Reddit is still a great archive of knowledge.

Agreed. I am not a fantasy fan for games really at all (with very few exceptions) but this looks so rad. The combination of tech and fantasy looks like a wild ride.

I totally missed the clip you were shocked by at first (I guess the Twitter embed didn't load the first time). Just went back to watch it and I don't understand how someone can be ok with saying that. Yeah I've heard sexist things and weird sexual harassment comments in games like valorant, overwatch, etc but that was absolutely disgusting. His casual tone says so much about him too. He's not even laughing where you could at least say "that's a stupid shitty joke". He has such a real tone to it that it's truly disturbing.

I agree with all of your points. It's unfortunate but I think we've gotten to the point that people need to be properly held accountable. Don't just ban them from the game, ban them from the entire platform and report them to local authorities for that. Hell, when someone is this nasty someone on the community team should send it to their employer. It's clearly a threat even if he has no way to see it through. This isn't just calling someone trash, or telling a woman to "go back to the kitchen". These people need to learn what real consequences are. It's truly disgusting behavior.

Yeah if someone that is blind comes across a page I'm sure waiting for the description to generate is more valuable/worthwhile than a faster experience with no information at all.

Haven't played since close to launch (because it was very laggy). I really liked the idea and had a lot of fun when it was working. I haven't played in a while so I can't comment on the current state of the game but if you like Tarkov or DMZ there's a good chance you'll like this game. It feels like it's somewhere between the arcade feel of DMZ and the milsim feel of Tarkov.

I also like that it's one big living map. I haven't tested it but I'm pretty sure you can be in one zone and run all the way over to a totally different zone (what would be considered a different map in Tarkov). The map feels super big. I'm excited to check it out again.

I haven't read anything about the game yet but just based on this trailer I'm getting a Dark Tide meets Helldivers vibe and I'm all for it.

To that point it's probably going to be a lot slower than running it on an HDD too. That said, the USB performance is surprisingly good when you consider you're literally running an OS over USB and the OS isn't even in an optimized state.
