Good, I am glad they charged him. These ecosystems are fragile and human travel damages them. And some of the thermal vents are literally boiling...and they have crusts over them so you can't tell where the edge is. Yellowstone is a rugged, beautiful and dangerous place that must be respected.
I think it's better to let people as stupid as the guy in the article to go ahead and harm themselves. Do a good enough of a job, and he's removed from the gene pool.
Civilized society abandoned this type of "natural" selection a while back.
Unfortunately, people like him would do a lot more harm to the system before they clocked out if left unchecked.
