I think, generally, most people don't really give a shit about oil and gas workers. They're just trying get food and housing just like everyone else. People hate oil and gas companies though, and that hatred is righteous and justified.
Eh, when fracking swept through my region, any time you saw a giant lifted pickup truck driving like an asshole, there were better than even odds it had a Texas or Oklahoma plate on it.
I'm not saying all oil and gas workers are assholes who drive giant fashion statement, Pavement Princess trucks...but there were definitely enough of them to create a lasting stereotype.
