why do lemmy users hate the use of emojis ?

Ī›dĪ›m_š’·@infosec.pub to Asklemmy@lemmy.ml – 205 points –

I'm a heavy emoji user, texting is such a poor medium for communication, many times people get the wrong message, but with an emoji you'll get an idea of the face I'm making, so less chance of misunderstanding

I noticed that every time I add an emoji to a comment it gets downvoted, so I tested my theory, wrote a comment without an emoji, got upvotes, went back and added an emoji, got downvotes..

On Reddit people use emojis a lot, on Lemmy I NEVER saw anyone use emojis, my account is new but still for the time I spent here, I never saw the use of emojis

So, is it just me, have you noticed this small detail ? and do you miss emojis the way I do ? šŸ˜

I've always found emoji haters to just be weird crotchety redditors in general, I've looped around from being one as a kid to like coming to appreciate them nowadays, also custom emojis are cool AF and I can't wait until Lemmy starts to fix the problem with Lemmy emojis getting shown massively to users from other instances so I don't have to keep a mental checklist of which emojis get mega sized to non Hb users

It looks like this on my end:

My hot take while agreeing with you: šŸ¤£ šŸ˜‚ is thoroughly lead-poisoned by passive aggressive boomers raging out while trying very hard to seem "not mad" and those particular emojis are often a red flag when used.

I've got the same issue with your comment as the OP. There literally isn't a single period in your comment. Maybe people should learn punctuation and sentence structure before emojis? Emojis just emphasize my issues with people not writting poorly/not even caring.

Shut up, informal writing often takes the structure of speech, which is prone to longer sentences with more ambiguous divides. I generally write properly and, as someone who does, you are being hysterical and snide.

I don't mind a run-on sentence. This one and the OP are insane. It's not just long sentences, it's harder to understand.

This one and the OP are insane

Liberal Lemmitors try to talk about people they dislike without calling them mentally ill challenge. Difficulty level:

Dude, Wtf? First, what's up with the usage of "liberal" here? You guys need to learn more words. Nothing about this is political, and check my comment history for political comments. Get out of here.

Also, I'm not calling them neurodivergent (which is the more appropriate language than mentally ill, which is pretty insulting as it says they're mental faculties are bad). Insane has more usages besides that, and actually doesn't mean that at all anymore really. If someone does something cool it's "insane" for example. I haven't heard it used to refer to mental issues in a very long time. It's something that's outrageous or extreme.

Dude, Wtf? First, what's up with the usage of "liberal" here?

Here it comes.

You guys need to learn more words. Nothing about this is political, and check my comment history for political comments. Get out of here.

Condescending smarmy statements, "nothing about this is political" bullshit claims (it's actually hard to really narrow down many things that aren't political if you're not willfully ignorant), and dismissive smuglord shit is culturally liberal to a Reddit tier, and so is your apparent position that you're "nonpolitical" to begin with. That's just status quo advocacy without the courage to own it.

I didn't say I'm non-political. God damn you're annoying. I said that specific post was non-political. Read my comment history. Does it look like I'm not political?

The fucking trolls on this website... You added nothing to the conversation and weren't even accurate (purposefully?) with your characterization.

I didn't say I'm non-political.

The problem with all that craven label dodging is that you ultimately present yourself as standing for nothing.

The fucking trolls on this website

Everyone I Dislike On The Internet Must Be A Troll, A Bedtime Story For Smug Liberals

Look at my fucking comment history dude. I'm not label dodging. You're taking things totally out of context because you have no grounds to stand on. Go away.

Stop babbling about your very important comment history "dude."

I'm not label dodging.

Even fucking there you're dodging a label.

Go away.

smuglord

No.

Reddit awaits. They miss you there.

People like you are the reason people are afraid of Hexbear. I'm there not too infrequently and get along with most of the users fine. Then there's those like you who just want to troll. You add nothing and just try to be annoying, or try to "own" someone by taking things out of context and changing what people are saying. If you had anything valuable to say you wouldn't have to do that. You clearly don't. You add nothing, and you just make things worse for everyone except yourself (maybe, it could be worse for you too).

All of this because you want to call people "insane" in a way that is comfortable to you without pushback, the same way that people wanted to say the n-word and use homophobic slurs without pushback like in the early 2000s.

*people [omitted] writing poorly

If you're going to criticize grammar/punctuation, you had better be immaculate when doing so, let alone two mistakes within two words.

Well this explains a lot.
