Oh gosh, that's unfortunate.

Good thing I've been using NewPipe! I'm reading the post for other alternatives, but feel free to suggest some to me directly, if you'd like.

I have used freetube on windows. I assume adblock is in browser context here, so freetube should skip the browser completely.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm using Linux right now, and glad to see they have it on Flathub. I think I'll give that a try now! EDIT: I really like it, actually!

I hadn't realised it had been compiled for desktop. I've mainly been using it(well rather the fork with SponsorBlock) for a while now on Android since I can't just simply adblock the main app on an unrooted phone.

You might consider looking at invidious.

It wraps up youtube content such that you see 0 ads, have 0 tracking, and a much better overall experience. As well it lets you connect to other content like stuff hosted on peertube.

Thank you!

It looks like FreeTube actually has the option to route through invidious for all of those benefits. That's really cool!

Revanced too, if you are on Android. IOS has one, but I don't know the project name.

Thanks!

I had no idea there was a new fork(?) of Vanced. I was actually using Vanced previously, and really enjoyed that. Does it still require you to have a Google / YouTube account to login, or can it pull a NewPipe / FreeTube with profiles?

You do need a google accout to log in with revanced because its still the normal app, its just patched to remove ads, add sponsorblock and a lot of other stuff.

PS: Revanced isn't a fork of vanced, its an independant project with simmilar goals and a simmilar name.
