In ww2 the U.S. navy had a ship that just made and delivered ice cream to the fighting boats. Ice cream is as american as apple pie!
I'm not gonna argue with that. it is a classic american dessert. (especially together. A 4th of July staple if ever there was one.)
But, just for the record... because I find the history of icecream intriguing...
one of the earlier recordings of an ice cream recipe (and the salty-ice method of making it,) comes from a medical text written by a Syrian historian in the 1300's.
Apples, too, weren't native to America and brought over by colonists (though, the Ottoman empire had apple pies, too. And probably ice cream. One wonders if they were enlightened enough to put them together...)
