why do my legs ache when I'm having a fever?

Mothra@mander.xyz to No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world – 14 points –

So I'm in my deathbed right now, fever and chills and pain everywhere but especially on my legs. Why? Whatever I caught seems to be attacking my throat. Is the leg pain directly caused by the virus, or is it a defense mechanism of my body? Thanks

The bones in your upper legs are one of those (together with your hips) that have a persisting high bone marrow density, which produces a high amount of white blood cells during infection. This means that the bone marrow is populated by a much higher number of cells, which creates "pressure".
