Seems like going along with this would be a win for Hamas. It legitimizes them because they’re negotiating directly with a superpower. And, it makes Israel look more like the unreasonable one who isn’t acting in good faith.
Putting aside the fact that the US doesn't negotiate with terrorists, the Big Question is what do we have to offer Hamas and how could we supply whatever it is without being accused of aiding terrorists? So, this is more than likely a political ploy.
