Nato summit: Ukraine on 'irreversible path' to membership
bbc.com
Nato members have pledged their support for an "irreversible path" to future membership for Ukraine, as well as more aid.
While a formal timeline for it to join the military alliance was not agreed at a summit in Washington DC, the military alliance's 32 members said they had "unwavering" support for Ukraine's war effort.
Nato has also announced further integration with Ukraine's military and members have committed €40bn ($43.3bn, £33.7bn) in aid in the next year, including F-16 fighter jets and air defence support.
The bloc's Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said: "Support to Ukraine is not charity - it is in our own security interest."

From the 2008 Bucharest summit
This meeting was held in April and Russia invaded Georgia in August. So yes, Ukraine was wanting to join nato for years.
Why would NATO want to even consider having Ukraine join if it was the brightest of red lines, and very likely would end in war?
Proves nothing. Russia itself at one point pretended to want to join NATO, it's all politicking. And it's still pointless, a sovereign country is free to do what it wants, if it isn't, then it's not free and it has all the reason to fight for its freedom.
The US is practically never the good guy, but Russia is even worse, in this instance they're absolutely indefensible.
Oh yeah totally means nothing when they will literally go to war over the thing that means nothing. The issue is that nothing I can say will get across to you because you have believed the propaganda.
Well, you know, I actually went there, a few months before the war, and had the chance to talk to people, so maybe check your own propaganda bias.
You talked to putin and NATO?
Yeah all right, conversation over.
I am sorry I didnt pretend anecdotes were foreign policy.
And I'm sorry you don't understand sovereignty
And I am sorry you dont understand needless wars. Just dont include me or my family in your stupid wars dude.
