What open source tool gets the closest to mimicking the functionality of the "captains log" interface in Star Trek?

I'm actively working on building something for this. In the interim, most phones have something akin to a voice recorder with transcriptions.
The real captains logs are the voice notes you make to yourself on the toilet.

I, personally, am much more interested in holographic monitor solutions with multitouch and transferring files from tablet to computer with a throwing gesture. Like in the movie Avatar. But this is already from the sphere of iron opten sors....
