To my fellow sober queers out there

I know I'm not the only queer person who has struggled with substance abuse – it's not uncommon in our community because of the chronic trauma so many of us do and have experience/d from our families, friends, and society at large.

I make art based on my experiences as a queer sober person and the joy it has brought to my life. If you want to take a look, it’s on Instagram and I also recently duplicated it to Pixelfed (federated photo-sharing community).

I'm working on a piece right now about alcohol companies rainbow-washing for pride. I think they are aware of the alcohol abuse in our community and it sucks. But it also is important to be represented in society, which is, at the moment, capitalism.

I welcome DMs from anyone who wants to talk about their drinking if they are worried it's problematic, or just want to talk. I've been sober for over three years :)

Disclaimer: Many people, including queer people, are able to drink in a way that is not disordered or unhealthy for them. I don't judge anyone who drinks!

Thanks for this. I'm running a sober space for my community's pride festival and I'll share this around.

I wonder if there are any communities on the fediverse about substance use disorders? It would be nice to have an analogue for stopdrinking here.

Another sober queer here! You aren't alone.

There are dozens of us! Dozens! 😅

I took a look at your art and felt attacked, lol. My NA is always kombucha. It's so true.

How much kombucha can we be expected to drink?? lolol
