At more than 7 feet tall when fully extended and with 360 degree vision they’re formidable enough to make any would-be lawbreaker think twice.

Not a new thing in China. I've seen similar robots on patrol outside major railway stations back in 2019. Those ones seemed to be equipped with facial recognition and tasked with basically detecting people who are loitering and telling them to move on.
They've been trying them in US cities for a while too. One got a bit of media attention after telling someone using its emergency call button to ‘step out of the way’ and then wandering off humming a tune.
Such a demented country.
Disneyland with the death penalty.

American cities have plenty of faults, but 'feeling like a soulless outdoor shopping mall' isn't really one of them.
Singapore's the only country in the world where you never really get to leave the airport.
I wish if it was a more curvy robot with bellows arms.
