Music of the Week - July 3, 2023
Here’s the weekly music thread!
Share your discoveries, what songs you’ve been obsessed with this past week, and that you want to check out in the days to come!
Share something cool with someone else, or hopefully discover some great new music for yourself!
I discovered this classic-sounding upbeat ska track by the Steadytones over the weekend thanks to Craig Charles' Radio 6 show, and can't get enough of it. I couldn't believe it when I found out it only came out last year. It's blatantly going to be my song of the summer - it's got such a great laid back summer vibe!
Stelvio Cipriani is an italian composer Ive been listening to recently, and he goes purely all out in all his music. He is famous for composing for old movies, and his soundtracks are beautiful. My favorite song from him is Mary's Theme - From The "Femina Ridens" Soundtrack
The One by Taking Back Sunday has been hitting all the right boxes for me, which is something I never thought I’d say. It almost feels like U2 meets the Killers at parts. I really dig it.
Blackwater Holylight is another new discovery for me. Heavy riffs, smooth melodies, great vocals. I’m gonna explore more of these ladies’ stuff this week.
Finally, I found myself returning to Killers by Iron Maiden a lot this week. Such a great sophomore record, and the intro of Wrathchild gets me going more than any other song in a long time! Genghis Khan is also one of my favorite metal instrumentals ever. Check it out if you haven’t heard it before!
wasn’t expecting to like these as much as i did! taking back sunday is a band i’ve been meaning to look into for a long time, but have never really gotten around to. and blackwater holylight, while a little bit low energy for me personally, has a really lovely laid back sound that i like too!
your ghengis khan suggestion reminds me of this ghengis kahn which is a pretty different genre, but pretty catchy nonetheless
The video for Miike Snow's Genghis Khan is pretty great.
