How do you know if an instance is federated or not?
For example, an instance may have blocked lemmy.world, but I can still see their communities in the search from lemmy.world. I'm not sure how to tell if they are blocked or not.

One way is to go to [instance url]/instances to get a list of federated instances, and see if it appears there. For example, to see who lemmy.world federates with, go to https://lemmy.world/instances
On the web UI, there’s a link at the bottom for this:
InstancesA list of who an instance federates with or is blocking is at https://an.instance.youre.wondering.about/instances (replace with the proper site name)
For me, that link returns "Server Not Found".
