As we move from Reddit to Lemmy and simultaneously read your feedback (we do!), we will be re-evaluating some of our rules to make it less strict of a community.

Seeing as this has been quite popular, this can be the fourth option!
Yeah, this is pretty much where I stand - memes are fun, but they can get annoying quickly. Putting them up in a separate community would allow people to post them to their hearts content and allow others tired of memes to ignore that community for a while.
This seems like the best compromise to me as well.

Yes but also in the post itself as well. Like making a meme about a phone in the text body of a post.
