His team claims that the evidence used was gathered during the presidency, when he was immune. It sounds absurd, since concealing private business records is clearly not an official function of the presidency, but its was apparently enough to sway the prosecution who admittedly may know more about the legal system than I do.

He seems to have at least partially succeeded: Manhattan Prosecutors Agree to Delay Trump’s Sentencing

SCOTUS can't do shit for state charges. Doesn't mean they won't try.

However, His legal team will argue literally any punishment is too harsh and appeal the NY state charges, which will be granted because he was a president and has money. Then it will be delayed past the election and not matter anyway because this system is not made to resist willful destruction by those entrusted to protect it.

Edit: Turns out they can. The NY prosecution has agreed to postpone charges less than a day after the ruling. Trump's team asserts that the criminal activities occurred before he was president, but since the evidence was gathered during, he can not be prosecuted. Apparently concealing evidence unrelated to the presidency is an official act...

Cabinet and federal appointments are the big thing. That's why I'll take Biden over Trump. I'm not just voting for him, I'm voting for the 4000 jobs in energy, health, labor, transportation, etc. to be run by Democrats, liberals, and qualified people.

Trump, and project 2025 plan to fill all those roles with right wing nutjobs who will do anything to please the right. On top of those 4000, they'd expand the presidential appointment power to fire up to 45% of the federal workforce. Meteorologist who said the hurricane won't hit Alabama? GONE! Doctor who said injecting bleach was a bad idea? FIRED!

I'll take anyone who won't put Project 2025 in motion.

I agree with you. My thinking is, as a politically active person who is around politically active people from all over the spectrum, that no one has really heard from Trump in the past 3 years, besides the ones that wanted too. I've heard his voice maybe 10 times? Heard about him, of course, but not from him.

While the debate was an absolute shitshow, Trump was Trump. He reminded everyone for 90 minutes what it was like to have him in every room, on every channel, at every dinner table, and in every conversation. Undecideds are who they are, but they didn't like that in 2020 when they voted for Biden. People's memories are short and I think they forgot how terrible he was.

The 119th Congress will be seated on January 3rd 2025 and the presidential election certification will be January 6th. So if the Dems win the majority in 2024, they won't have the power to deny certificatation outright. Though, I'm sure a minority will still object to every swing state like they did in 2020, just to draw it out.

The Supreme Court has no enforcement arm. That's why the court loosing it's credibility is kind of a big deal for Roberts.

As racist as this obviously is, it's good to see a red state be the test case for ignoring the court. It might give blue states more energy to ignore the next 40 years of authoritarian and climate denial rulings.

We're stuck with him till 2034 at least, he had this to say following his confirmation:

"The liberals made my life miserable for 43 years," a former clerk renmembered Thomas who was 43 years old when confirmed saying, according to The New York Times. "And I'm going to make their lives miserable for 43 years."

Dealers are still a big problem for EVs on top of the points mentioned in the article. They complain about it being hard to sell EVs, but also mark up almost every model and push customers toward ICE cars. Dealers are incentivized to sell ICE cars that support them long term with overpriced service intervals and repairs. EVs don't require as much regular maintenance. States with strong dealer laws like Oklahoma have been fighting against EV adoption by banning direct sales, show rooms, and even service centers.

He's still not actually paying her. He's just securing a bond that lets him avoid paying while he seeks an appeal. Just keep kicking the can down the road.

"Donald J. Trump on Friday posted a $91.6 million bond in a defamation case he recently lost to the writer E. Jean Carroll, staving off a potential legal and financial disaster just days before a deadline to secure the deal. The bond, provided by an outside insurance company, will prevent Ms. Carroll from collecting the judgment while Mr. Trump appeals."

Like the $99 NFTs that you could only buy 100 of, conveniently falling just short of the IRS reporting threshold?

The GoFundMe is run by a random follower of his. Remember that guy who was raising money to pay for the wall and then just took the money and disappeared?

He sure is. Remember he invited Trump across the border and told him he was the first president to come over. Trump bragged about that afterwords and talked about opening hotels on the NK waterfront.

"The GOP is still expected to retain majorities in both chambers, though the party’s advantage would likely be slimmer than the absolute authority it now commands, particularly in the Senate. Currently, the GOP has a supermajority in the Senate and a near supermajority in the Assembly."

So in a state were the D/R ratio is 42%\42% they are still getting maps biased in their direction, just not as much as they had before.

I doubt they will rule in his favor, or at least hope that is the case. The more likely scenario is that they'll play for time. They refused to take the case early a few months ago so that it would be forced into a lower court. That court took it's time and is now complete with the obvious ruling. Now the SCOTUS will take it up and sit on it till November.

"The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus, but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn."

-Methodist Pastor David Barnhart

I went to test out a Kona EV a few years ago and the dealer allegedly had one in stock according to the website but when I got there, the guy told me they don't sell them in my state. I thought that was odd, but he explained it that there was no way to charge them here. I acted dumb and asked why I couldn't charge at home. He just said it needed a special plug and my state didn't have those...Not public chargers (of which there were many), the dude tried to tell me my state did not have access to standard RV or Dryer plugs.

But yeah, there are some great used deals out there right now with Hertz dumping their fleet due to collision repair costs.

This may be a shock to you, but there are other branches of government in the US. One of which is not elected and that's the one that recently struck down Biden's HEROS plan that would have eliminated $460B in student loan debt.

To target something so ubiquitous that everyone has dealt with it and doesn't like it?

Already forgotten about the infrastructure bill? That also includes a lot of climate action.

That, and she was quoted in Romney's book (insert salt grain) saying she didn't care about reelection because she was already elected and could go sit on any board she wanted or become a university president. She was always just in it for the money and status.

It looks like slab on grade construction, there's no moving those. The houses that can be moved are up on posts or over a basement.

Except this is Biden's Whitehouse continuing to tell Congress to approve aid and the GOP blocking that. This was the last package the US could provide without further congressional action. That's not likely as long as GOP runs the house. Biden and the Democratic party have been pretty lock step in providing aid.

Maybe they should move the case to DC then so there are enough active Top Secret clearances to create a healthy jury pool.

Environmental impact statements and plans for projects like these rarely include details for end of life stages. In my environmental program, we reviewed and submitted comments on some. I selected a solar farm that was scheduled to last 20 years and then be removed. The only details they provided for end of life was that the panels would be disposed of locally. This is a common trend in any industry, not just green tech. However, I argue that we are at a point where we need to transform our entire energy infrastructure system in a short time. We have an opportunity to do it right and not end up with solar panels in landfills or derelict wind farms as we have burning coal mines and wells leaking gas.

For US based readers, you can look up projects on the EPA's site and make comments yourself. You don't need to be an expert to encourage sustainable practices.

Some polls back up this analysis. A Quinnipiac survey shows Kennedy getting 13 percent of the vote; he has support from 9 percent of Democrats, 8 percent of Republicans and 20 percent of independents. The poll shows Biden leading Trump by three points in a head-to-head matchup but Trump ahead by one point when third-party candidates are included. Though both numbers are within the poll’s margin of error, they suggest that Trump could benefit if the election isn’t seen as a binary choice.

However, other polls show Kennedy pulling more voters from Trump, and the truth is no one knows how the election will ultimately shake out. “The public polling, if you dig into it, can be really head-swiveling,” said Smith. “It’s very hard to gauge the impact, but it does seem like he pulls from both, and right now — emphasis on ‘right now’ — slightly more from Biden.”

Kennedy certainly has no qualms about spoiling the election for Trump. On CNN on Monday, he argued that Biden poses a “much worse” threat to democracy than Trump because of the Biden administration’s attempts to get social media companies to remove vaccine misinformation, much of it spread by Kennedy

I really don't see how a pro-Israel, against any ceasefire agreement, candidate that also believes the free market will fix climate change stands to gain more support from former Biden voters than former Trump voters.

Joe Biden finalized a 5.2% federal pay raise for many civilian employees for 2024. The highest in over two decades, with the second highest being last year's.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Dredge this year. Highly recommend

I can't tell if you're summarizing here, but that's exactly what he's doing. The speaker and majority leader decide what bills are allowed to be brought to the floor for a vote. The only way around that is a discharge petition. Jefferies can't bring the bill to a vote himself. From the article:

"The legislation could also be brought to the floor via a discharge petition, which would require the support of 218 members, including at least four Republicans."

The question is, will 4 Republicans break with Trump to support it?

Damned if they do and damned if they don't. They either get condemned for helping keep a GOP speaker in place or they get criticized for not helping and getting stuck another freedom caucus pick speaker, after they bicker for a month.

Right, not disputing that at all. I'm just saying he's (or whoever is footing the bill) a long way from actually paying anyone their due.

I bet we are in for 30 years of "the spirit of Donald Trump said to me in prayer...." From politicians and just straight up denial of his death from his followers.

You're absolutely right. It's highly unlikely they'd rule in his favor. As you said, that would give any president absolute power and that's not agreeable to the court who, after overturning Chevron, will wield a lot more power themselves.

I hope they refuse the case. It would have been smart for the judiciary as a whole to do that a long time ago. Let trump face trial while they still had another viable candidate in the race. However, the strategy in all of his legal fights has been to drag this out as long as possible in the hope that he becomes president and it's all null and void. Thus allowing him to never face trial and the court to never rule either way.

If you're referring to Carbon Monoxide detectors [I recognize the OP made an error calling them CO2] commonly referred to as "smoke/CO", then, in the US at least, smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors are usually combined units. I've never found one to be separated like that. A common example is below. Carbon Monoxide is similar, if not lighter than common air density, so putting one on the floor wouldn't make any real difference.
