They stopped teaching about computers. I tutored high schoolers about 10 years ago and they didn't know how to use computers fluently. It moved to the realm of expecting parents to teach to their kids along with taxes and career planning.

Speaking of which, I grew up in the 90s pre Internet, and started using the Internet in middle school. Definitely never got any official Internet safety lessons. Maybe I was a little too early? Idk. But by the time I was 30 schools were not teaching this at least from what I saw

I really resonate with your comment and also struggled with depression throughout my teens into adulthood until I learned about late diagnosed adhd and how those who fly under the radar for that can often lead to chronic burnout which is very similar looking to depression. Have you ever considered you might be ADHD?

So we grew up with some absurd humor, especially in the early days of the Internet. Gen Z is just the logical evolution of that. Their humor tends more towards pure surreal abstract meaningless, and that's the joke.

I'm sure this will happen. People do get crazy when Internet arguments occur. But what is the risk to you I wonder? If they do something that will get them banned, it will only affect that account. Do others really pay attention to usernames? I don't.. I could see someone coming into a contentious debate and trolling but ultimately do any of these debates really matter outside of just the sharing of knowledge and ideas? I'm trying to think how it could really negatively affect me other than just being rude and offensive to my ego.

Indeed. I'm often overwhelmed by my feelings of fear and anger. Reading this gave me such a sense of futility, like wow I must be destined to die a slow and painful death of cancer, if poverty or civil uprising doesn't get me first. Lemmy/voyager noob here... When I click on that link it doesn't open the community in voyager, it opens it in an internal browser where I'm not logged in so I can't easily subscribe unless I log in or go back and search for the community. What do I need to do in order to get clicked links to open the community in voyager?
