In IT teaching users to actually read and understand errors is always an uphill battle.

For these women, the liberty of privacy means that they alone should choose whether they serve as human incubators for the five months leading up to viability. It is not for a legislator, a judge, or a Commander from The Handmaid’s Tale to tell these women what to do with their bodies during this period when the fetus cannot survive outside the womb any more so than society could -- or should -- force them to serve as a human tissue bank or to give up a kidney for the benefit of another. Considering the compelling record evidence about the physical, mental, and emotional impact of unwanted pregnancies on the women who are forced by law to carry them to term (as well as on their other living children), the Court finds that, until the pregnancy is viable, a woman’s right to make decisions about her body and her health remains private and protected, i.e., remains her business and her business alone. When someone other than the pregnant woman is able to sustain the fetus, then -- and only then -- should those other voices have a say in the discussion about the decisions the pregnant woman makes concerning her body and what is growing within it
Very true, I would do the same and feel my stomach drop farther each time.

Yes the compiler/interpreter can figure it out on the fly, that's what we mean by untyped languages. And as stated both have their merits and their faults.
Elon doesn't know what the words mean and just chimes in with his AI future BS.
Stunning claims? How is this stunning? Everyone knows Trump is rude as hell, he doesn't even try to hide it.
While the general message of this meme is true, almost none of the internet actually goes through satellites. There are huge cables all around the world connecting the whole thing. And while launching rockets and deploying satellites is really cool, I think ocean crossing cables are impressive all on their own. Imagine a cable not only long and strong enough to cross an ocean, but also resting on the ocean floor, exposed to the environment and expected to work for decades. And to think the first of these cables was deployed back in 1858.
Rare kinda did their own thing and skirted the rules set by Nintendo. Nintendo did what they could to reign them in, but Rare just pushed through anyways.
Please also check out the tits on the melon girl in Banjo-Kazooie and how hot the witch is in the game over screen. Not to mention the native american chick. And the tits on the flower in Conker (plus the character called Jugga)
For those not in the know: The big issue with quantum computers is decoherence. This is (simply put) noise produced in the system, which interferes or overwrites the calculation / signal we want to get out of the computer. A large part of this is thermal energy, all that energy bouncing around destroys any chance of reading out the signal. So the solution would be to cool the machine within a fraction of a degree of absolute zero, which is hard but not impossible. Then there's also EM radiation coming from all around us (wifi and cellphones, but also things like radio), this is relatively easy to shield against. A bit of a pain, but still something that can be done. But then there's cosmic rays, there's a real chance a cosmic ray hits with enough energy to disrupt the calculation within milliseconds. Milliseconds isn't enough to do a useful calculation, so that's a problem. Shielding against this is also pretty hard, since cosmic rays can have a lot of energy.
Then there's the issue of measurement itself, measuring automatically means putting in energy to the system. This means it's very hard (or maybe even impossible) to read out the results, without destroying them. Even if you get the damn thing stable enough to do a useful calculation.
The more qubits in a system, the more powerful it becomes, and you need quite a number of them to do anything useful with the machine. But the more qubits the bigger the decoherence issue.
This is why some people (me included) don't believe the current form of quantum computers we are researching can actually work in the real world. We need some kind of big breakthrough on this to create an actually useful quantum computer system. With all the cooling and shielding requirements we certainly won't be using them at home any time soon.
But of course as with anything these days the marketing department and media runs with everything they can, spouting out nonsense about quantum computers becoming mainstream any day now and all the amazing things they can do. This can make it hard to figure out what the actual level of development is right now. Plus anybody working on this is putting in billions of dollars and sure as heck won't share anything with anybody. So maybe someone has already made a breakthrough, but I doubt it.
I've found the most important part of finding a mate on Lemmy is to run Arch Linux. If you do not run Arch Linux, are you even trying?
I use Arch BTW
Yes I hate them as well, they always get in the way and putting the cap back on is super annoying.
However, since these bottles were introduced data has shown they work. Bottle caps were one of the most found items in trash picked up from the streets. The number of bottle caps has gone way down since these were introduced.
So I've accepted them. Can't argue with data. I've never returned a bottle without a cap in my life. I've never thrown away a cap separate from the bottle. But turns out the world is full of psychopaths who throw the cap in the street. Probably the same kind of person who throws their trash by the side of the road from their car. Fuck those people.
The region map also tells a story
You'd be surprised how much a concrete pillar holding up an overpass can actually take. They don't break like in the movies, they are specifically designed to take big truck impacts and not fail. Anybody crashing a Cybertruck at highway speeds into one of those is instantly turned into red colored mashed potatoes.
Because in a recipe it's impossible to specify cooking times without pre-heating. It's easy to say 10 minutes at 200 degrees, because this would be exactly the same for everyone. Every oven is different, so the time would be different depending on your oven, which the person writing the recipe can't know. So if the instructions on something like bread say pre-heat and bake for 10 minutes at 200 degrees, they know the result would be good.
There is also the fact ovens warm up differently. If there is a heating element within the compartment where the food is being heated (especially above), this element gets way too hot and emits a lot of infrared radiation whilst heating up the oven. It does this because it wants to get to the set temperature as fast as possible. Once it gets there it only needs to maintain that temperature, which is much easier, so the heating element gets much less hot during this time. If you set something like a cake in the oven with a heating element right above it, best case the top of the cake gets baked more than the rest, worst case the top gets burnt before the inside cooks.
Then there's the fact whilst heating the temperatures inside the oven fluctuate a lot, some parts get hot fast, other parts take more time. When you have food that's sensitive to that you def need to preheat.
And there's a lot of chemistry going on, for example some foods get really greasy if they don't get hot enough while cooking. Whilst these food could be cooked with the temperature going from 50 - 150 degrees, the end result would be much better if it's just cooked at 200 during the whole process.
Now there are a lot of cases where this doesn't matter and if you know your oven well enough you can compensate. But there are plenty of legit reasons to pre-heat and you may even have better results when pre-heating, even if the end result was fine before.
So I agree, people should pre-heat and there are tangible benefits!
Oncoming drivers? I'm getting blasted by "cars" behind me. Fucking trucks or even lifted trucks with their headlights at my eye level. And it seems like lights are getting brighter as well, or people drive with their high beams on. My rearview mirror is auto dimming, which helps a lot. But since I drive the speed limit these trucks are swerving back and forth behind me, blinding me via the side mirrors.
Man we really really need restrictions on size and weight of cars. It's getting ridiculous out there.
Same, I've installed Arch on my ThinkPad, shaved my legs and put on knee high stockings. I also give every car a middle finger and swear when walking past parking lots. Lemmy has radicalized me in surprising ways.
The other day my brother and I were talking about some science experiment we were doing as kids, how we had a lot of fun until our dad barged into the room and got mad at us for messing with that stuff. We were laughing about it and were like yeah our dad is such an asshole. Then my brother went like: "Yeah do you remember what happened next?". I was like: "No I don't remember, I remember him being angry and shouting but not much else." This was a typical Tuesday for us back in the day, so I didn't think there was more to remember. My brother said: "Yeah he beat you up so bad you went unconscious for over a minute. I was scared he had beat you to death. Our dad turned white and stormed out of the room as soon as your eyes opened again." We both laughed and were like "Damn that's fucked up".
Where the FUCK are you?
These guys are the fucking biggest idiots in the world. They don't worry about being Russian and Chinese operatives, they only worry about losing votes because people found out they are. It's the whole you only sorry you got caught, but on a traitor to your nation level.
Fuck these guys and anybody that votes for them.
I always laugh when media says scientists are baffled and have a mystery on their hands.
More often than not they pretty much know exactly what is up. But Pete says one thing, Harry says another thing, Jenna has been working on it for the past 20 years and don't forget old man Harris who did great work in the 70s. Most of the time they disagree on small details which don't even matter unless you are really into the subject. Or they have 2 theories and know for sure one of them is right, but they don't know which one. They need funding and staff for a 12 month study to figure out which one it is, but getting that funding has been an issue for the past 10 years.
Then they talk to a reporter and say well we don't really know, because they don't want to be presumptuous. So the headline says its a MYSTERY and scientists are BAFFLED.
In my experience scientist don't get baffled, they get excited and talk your ear off for hours if you let them. If you think they will stop if you stop buying them drinks, it doesn't work, they just keep going.
You chose to buy it at that price. What does it matter what the original price was or how much the seller made? You thought the price was fair, had the choice to not buy it or buy it somewhere else.
This isn't like scalpers buying up items, creating artificial scarcity and driving up prices for profit. This is just plain old capitalism.
Presumably the price also included shipping and handling fees, since you bought it online. So in the end the seller probably made just a couple of quid, he deserves to get paid for what he does no?
Please note that every day thousands of people try to start with streaming/YouTube/TikTok etc. and almost all of them fail. It's not impossible to make money, but it super hard and most people never make anything. I would never recommend anybody do it with the intent or expectation to make any money. Just do it for the fun of it and if you happen to make some money, great!
A longer stick would be preferable
Tech Ingredients did a video about it as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNs_kNilSjk
The biggest problem with making stuff white and using fancy materials is the amount of crap they get exposed to.
Moisture is one issue, both in the form of water vapor / condensation as well as rain. But there's also smallish animals, like birds and cats that crawl around on roofs. Not to mention all the insects. Then there is the normal sand and dust in the air, plus all the pollution. Depending on where you live, white stuff gets really dirty within weeks or months.
I work in a white office building and they have it cleaned with pressure washers twice a year, it takes a whole climbing team a good two weeks to clean the whole thing and it looks dirty again after a few months. And that's just a white form of plastic (HPL) you can blast away on, without causing damage. With these fancy meta materials often they are really fragile and any damage undoes the special properties.
For people interested in the difference between decompiled machine code and source code I would recommend looking at the Mario 64 Decomp project. They are attempting to turn a Mario 64 rom into source code and then back into that same rom. It's really hard and they've been working on it for a long time. It's come a long way but still isn't done.
Also illegal in the EU, when posting a "sale" the price compared to must be the lowest price the outlet had for the product in the previous 30 days. So unless they want to increase the price for over 30 days, this trick isn't going to fly.
Damn you know they have real doubt about Starliner with this decision. People were saying Nasa was just being super careful and the vehicle was perfectly fine like Boeing said. But with the astronauts being forced to use Crew Dragon, they can't wear their space suits. Because the suits they use on Starliner aren't compatible with all the SpaceX stuff. This can be a big risk, if there is a problem with the vehicle, the astronauts have no protection. But Nasa must have decided that was a smaller risk over using the Starliner. That says a lot.
OK guys, I just did the divorce part, but now I can't find the re-marry part in the dialog tree. How do I get to that part?
Guys?
....
Guys? Guys.... :'(
There is 0 reason this should be an app. Stop making shitty apps and just have proper websites.
Free mental healthcare is a pretty leftist stance I think? Solving social issues and getting people the resources and care they need seems like a good way to solve the suicide issue and that's 100% what the left is all about.
Yes your honor, guilty as charged. It's that Gruntussy that pulled me over to the dark side.
Well decompiling is only one step in the reverse engineering process. I would recommend taking a look at the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time decompile projects. They reversed engineered the whole thing, which took years and was a team effort.
In the end they got perfectly readable source code, fully documented. And the most amazing thing is, when compiled with the right compiler and right flags, it recreates the original rom perfectly.
I would also recommend a YouTuber called Kaze. He's been working on Mario 64 for years, re-writing large parts of the engine to get some pretty cool stuff going.
I've seen a changelog that said "Introduced some bugs, so we can fix them later".
It was a joke, but true nonetheless.
I had ass surgery last year, the doctors went in through my asshole and removed a tumor (about 5cm long) from my colon about 15cm in from the hole. They used a super cool tool and except for the discomfort of having people dig around in my ass, with multiple people watching, and a sting as they applied the local anesthetic it was perfectly fine. The whole thing took about 1 hour from getting into the hospital, to being back in the car again. The tool they used allowed them to get into the gut, without a full surgery. This tool allowed the doctor to see what she was doing and cut away the tumor with a sort of heat wire cutter. It also had grabbers to pull on the tumor to get it out cleanly. She showed me the tumor when she got it out, proud to show how big of a thing she was able to remove. As the tool used heat to burn the flesh, there was minimal bleeding. I did however bleed from my ass for over two weeks.
The doctor told me to use a bandage on my asshole, to prevent the blood from leaking. Aside from switching out this bandage a couple of times a day, I had to do nothing. It hurt bad for a couple of days and after about a week it was just discomfort. She told me I could poop just as normal and to not force or hold in, just follow the regular schedule and it would be just fine.
As it was explained to me the colon is touching poop all the time and knows how to deal with it. A small burn isn't a big deal for the gut, it won't get infected or be a problem at all. She told me the signs to look for and alert them if any of them showed. Then they could use some medication to deal with things like infections. But luckily it all went fine, pooping didn't hurt more than just existing did and there were no complications.
So for small operations through the asshole, the colon can handle it and it won't get infected. The doctors also use tools to for example burn instead of cut to prevent an fully open wound.
What are you talking about? Every "green" party I know in Europe is very much against the war in Ukraine and holds Russia responsible. They are about as anti Russia as it gets. Green parties are also very much pro Europe, they want a stronger Europe with more members and cooperation in the EU. Green parties are either center-left or totally left leaning. Green parties usually get a big chunk of votes, not only marginal like in the US.
Russia is heavily funding and supporting the right and far right parties, who are almost all against a unified Europe. Russia is doing their best to break up the EU with campaigns of misinformation, bots, advertising and direct/indirect funding of right wing political parties.
And Russia is succeeding as well with the far right on the rise all over Europe. They already got Brexit through against all odds and are now working on breaking up the rest. In Germany the rise of the right is still fresh, so there is a lot of resistance. But other countries are much less resistant.
Not to defend Fahrenheit, it's a nonsense scale, however: As with most subjective scales the entire scale can be split into good and not good. The top part is good and the bottom part is not good. The middle of the top part is seen as average good.
So around 75 degrees would be perfect, which is close enough for something as subjective as temperature.
This is why in things like movie or game reviews a 7/10 is seen as average. Like it's good, in the good part, but right in the middle not anything special. A 5/10 or lower is seen as not good, not worth seeing, not worth your time etc. This works for reviews, grades, person attractiveness rating etc.
Please help us, how do we make it stop?
They don't actually understand any of those things. They just think white skin, blue eyes and blond hair equals Uber mensch and thus the divine right to rule the world. And just like the Nazis, the fact that most of them don't actually conform to the qualifications they dream up is beyond them. That's why you see those pictures of Trump as a muscular Jesus, they are very detached from reality.
