Well for one, ISPs are not the government, and two, if any CA was caught doing this, browsers like firefox would drop them. Hopefully google would too, but who knows. Thats an aweful lot of risk on their part.

These days, it is often misused by ignorant people because it sounds derogatory.

Or if its windows pro, choose for work, then say you will domain join instead of use a Microsoft account. It will let you just make a local account, and you can just not domain join it.

Yeah, home assistant is tiny... I'm not sure what he expects? Does he need it to run on a pi zero or something? Lol

I also find being able to so easily adjust the priority of results to be awesome. For example, some sites like amazon, Home Depot, and Audible, I want the canadian sites always over the american ones. So i can lower the priority of .com and raise .ca with two clicks.

Flameshot can run a script once it saves a screenshot, so it can effectively be uploaded anywhere. Like zipline for example.

I still prefer ksnip over flameshot though.

You could technically do this with Nextcloud, but that is definitely overkill just for a file drop.
The next best thing I can think of for this would be localsend with auto accept enabled.

I have seen the word Tankies a ton since I joined Lemmy, but it seems like people use it for almost anybody that is political at all, lol. Is the definition of it that google gives accurate?

I use homepage currently. It is by far my favourite dashboard app, and i have given 5 or 6 of them a try before this.

It's just so quick to load and simple to use. It's just a couple yaml files!

Not just the US, Canada is like this too.

Sorry, but that doesn't really work. I can expand your terminal answer as much as you did the gui one. You have to open the terminal, use the man page for apt to find out how to search for a packages name, search for a package and hopefully find it, then you need to run another command with that package name to install it.

Meanwhile, I can shorten the gui example to "It take me two seconds to use the search bar and click install"

They all have their ups and downs, guis are just easier and more intuitive for people who don't live and breath terminal commands. Terminals can be extremely confusing for them, having never used one before.

I dont have a DE reccomendation, but for gnome you can use the dash to panel extension for a KDE / Windows like taskbar that will sync pinned items across monitors. The multi monitor sync works pretty well on it.

I had a popup that my session expired. Logged back in, and all was good!

The 970 unfortunately doesn't have h265 hardware in it. The only gpu in that generation that does is the 960, as it was released later than the others and was one of the first to get h265. I ended up just getting a p400, and it's been rock solid.

Proxmox is a hypervisor, which is an OS that is built to run Virtual Machines (proxmox also runs containers). It is open source and can be installed for free, just like any other linux distribution, the same way Windows is installed. There are tons of tutorials out there on how to use it.

From there, you could setup some popular containers, including nextcloud, or even install full OS's in virtual machines to install software manually on them. It is a great first step, especially if you have limited access to hardware.

I was at the make excuses stage until late last year when my excuses were fixed. Booted my windows install maybe four times since then, and that was mostly to grab files from it haha.

Looks interesting! The ui looks miles ahead of NPM, so I might need to check it out

I am surprised I haven't seen Kavita show up here yet! It's a very nice self hosted ebook/manga/comic reading server that you can access from a web browser on any device. It's really matured over the years.

I have a few thousand novels in there and really like being able to hop between devices while keeping my spot in a book.

That looks really interesting! I will have to add it to my list to check out

Have you looked into Lifepo4 batteries lately? Their capacity and deep cycle life are quite price competitive these days, even up here in Canada.

Brisk fruit punch and sidekicks garlic alfredo spaghetti. Sad days when those were discontinued

Im sure you could mount a rollup projector screen anywhere you would put your TV, but your first point is huge. The light issue is a huge non starter

Lemmy as a whole is at 150k, lemmy.world is at 33k right now, and is 3k behind lemmy.ml (though it seems lemmy.world has more active users).

Some kind of easy notification system and panel/dock/taskbar notification emblems. The support for stuff like that is incredibly spotty right now and is one of the final things preventing me from switching off windows.

EDIT: Have found a decent solution to this via Dash to Panel. I have been running Zorin OS for over the last month now on my main PCs!

I have tried it out a few times in the last couple of years and inevitably run into sites that just won't work with it. Especially at work. I keep hoping it gets better, but it never seems to.

I am in Canada, the Brisk Fruit Punch flavour was discontinued here. I guess it could be possible to import it if its still available in the US. I quite liked it, though not sure I liked it enough to pay the import and shipping fees Canadians are slapped with.. Maybe I'll order it once just to relive my college days once again haha

As for the sidekicks alfredo, I was talking about specifically their garlic alfredo spaghetti. They have a couple other alfredo packets that are fairly different to the one I am talking about. None of them were ever quite the same!

Indeed. I went on a many hour hunt for alternatives, even trying some wine methods of getting sharex itself working. Ksnip was the next best option, and gifine for gifs/mp4

I mean up as in on a map. Canada, north of the US, uses colour

There are chat groups with usenet? How does that work? I have only ever seen it used for downloading stuff.

PoE++ Type 4 goes up to 100w, its Type 3 that goes to 60w. Why the hell they didnt just call it PoE+++ I'll never understand

Thats just not true.. there are many very popular applications that are not in package managers

To be fair, I dont think the people growing up with calculators in class and using chat gpt will be using cash at all. Not sure the last time I have even held physical currency, honestly. While your splitting a bill part might remain, we dont really need to worry about calculating change anymore.

To be fair, Windows doesn't ask to install all the bloat, it just does it lol

Until someone makes another app that adds up all your comment and post upvotes for a total karma number lol

Ahh, gotcha. Last I saw it was called Windows Live Mail and was already just suuuper basic. I am kind of impressed they managed to make it worse haha

Wasn't aware of that last one, thats not great..

Im not married to brave and would switch if i found something better, but the first two points seem like a non-issue to me tbh. The auto complete is coming from their free search engine. What do you think happens when a service with ongoing costs is free?

As for the second one, I did mention to just turn off all the crypto stuff... The way they do it is fairly common with general donations elsewhere anyway.

I just find brave works well on all my devices, and has a good cross device sync. Nothing else I have tried could match it.

I dont know about mtls, but Obsidian with the Self-Hosted Live Sync community plugin has end to end encrypted sync between any device. There are a ton of plugins to make it capable of doing whatever you want. I have it syncing between Windows, Linux, and Android currently.

Wouldn't that be true for everything then? 3,400C is pretty special circumstances in my book, yet we say tungsten melts.
