Nerd, truck driver, and kinda creeped that you're reading this.

If only Redbox had 4k blurays I'd probably have used them more, but I know that's probably way too niche.

That quote is so stupid.

"yeah I'm in cognitive and physical decline, but I'm totally capable of leading one of the most powerful and influential nations in history. Trust me bro."

In your circle maybe, I'd love the statistics on this though because I'm pretty sure the overwhelming majority are paying for their phones on installment through their carriers.

Yep. "Free phone" via bill credits for 2 years but they'll proudly proclaim they don't do contracts and there's no ETFs. Technically true, but realistically no difference.

Your instance blocks one of the biggest porn instances, so that's probably why.

astronaut-2 astronaut-1 !

What the hell are you talking about?

LineageOS is well past it's peak days but they support a ton of devices beyond Pixel.

“It’s horrible for everybody. Yeah, I lost my son, it’s harder on our family, but I don’t want the rest of her life ruined too. It isn’t going to make me feel any better,” he said.

As hard as it is to say something like that... we need more people like this.

Reddit and Twitter are multimillion dollar enterprises

I'm just some fool who rents a little virtual server so I can help people use the fediverse

I mean I'm not even an IT guy by trade (just by hobby) - I'm a truck driver.

"Fuck hitler's mom"

Yeah that sounds like the setup to a bootstrap paradox in which you were always hitler's dad.

Using "slay" in "Slay, Queen" as an adjective instead of a verb is hilarious.

cocktail

it's about the guns, not the cops

Honestly would be cooler if it were about the cops

Sorting by "Top -> 6 Hours" has been best for me so far

$28,000 of gas in a few months? Yeah no shit. Find something like this and keep it to personal use if you must. Probably could've kept it under the radar or an amount small enough to settle without criminal charges if caught.

Well sure, but I don't think it changes my question much. There's still so few active gecko-based browsers. And so many blink based.

Android can do satellite messaging? Android phone makers are shipping on device LLMs?

I'm not an Apple fanboy nor do I use an iPhone currently but this headline is ridiculous.

Thumball with 3D printed vertical stand yes I got asked about it a lot

I'm hourly, work 60 hours per week and get zero overtime.

This is entirely legal because I'm a truck driver.

Actually, I really am an office worker in a trucking company. But I occasionally, like once a month or less, run a short load if they really need me to. That makes me still exempt and is still legal for them to do.

Among other things I also get no sick leave

In 1973 teams of scientists chased an eclipse with a Concorde jet and experienced totality for 74 minutes

That's still the record AFAIK. That was a longer eclipse anyway, just over 7 minutes on the ground.

What missing features are so important that you decide to recreate the entire backend of Lemmy because you think the devs aren't fast enough?

My instance of ~300 users (and uh, far less active ones) is costing me $223/year

I've had users donate about $25 so ~10% community funded and 90% admin funded.

That's fine by me at the current cost. Though if we somehow got a bunch of new users I'd have to cut off signups at some point unless more donations rolled in. I could probably handle a sizeable increase in users first though.

I like Android but man Samsung's version has always sucked

A fraction of the paid sick days they were asking for, while also not meeting their other major demands at all. Ending Precision Scheduled Railroading was a big one. Still going on.

They stopped them from striking and potentially making greater gains, then tossed them some crumbs.

They should have stayed the hell out of it or used the government's power to stop the rail companies not the strikers.

Definitely Spanish "De Nada" basically "it's nothing" and the absolute default response to "thank you" in most Spanish speaking countries.

It should be a crime to directly link XKCDs images without the corresponding page.

Yeah this is the origin of Lemmy. Reddit banned some far left subreddits years ago and so some Communists went and made Lemmy.

Just block the instance if it bothers you. Jeez.

Call me when they hit the FOV limit too

Wait holy shit they locked the ORIGINAL ICON behind a paywall?

And into the local PD

In the early 1900s we had huge fights for labor. Strikes yes, but also some literal armed fights.

We won a lot. They conceded a lot.

But they've eroded those wins, little by little, for a century or so.

This is what will ALWAYS happen when you live in a system explicitly designed to extract profit from workers and reward greed. It cannot be reformed. It cannot be controlled. It will always slide backwards into this. We need a different system altogether.

Festival for peace

Where is this coming from? This article mentions that CNN reported it but CNN just says "an all-night dance party, celebrating the Jewish holiday of Sukkot"

The "it was a peace festival" seems to just be (not very good) propaganda to help drum up support for further Palestinian genocide.

Edit: it seems that this was something CNN initially reported but retracted later. Damage already done, other articles are quoting CNN's previous statement that it was a "festival for peace"

Wait they took off the porn? There's like always been porn on Twitter. I'm confused.

I designed a chip architecture that runs bash code on silicon.

I reimplemented x86 assembly in purely bash script.

It's kinda cool actually, but kids exist and I don't think kids should exist... around this.

This is badly written - to someone who doesn't know any of this it reads like they're missing out on something. Yes there's !games@lemmy.world and !games@lemmy.ml - but you don't need an account on either to participate in both! You can just go there and browse, comment, etc.

Eventually one will become dominant, and it will all be fine.
