Seems like beehaw is doing everything they can to isolate themselves from the community. They seem to have good intentions but they are way too uptight.

As expected, they can't be trusted. And the more AI evolves, the less likely AI content will be detectable IMO.

It's always amusing to me when a game has a huge download size but is also an overhead view game and you probably can't even get the camera close enough to the world objects to see the full texture detail.

lemmy.world and and sh.itjust.works have a lot of users and it seems like beehaw was getting too much content from them. There are apparently only 4 people running beehaw and they felt they couldn't moderate all the content and felt like it was a vulnerability that lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works just let anyone sign up.

Be honest about what's wrong, that's why you're there. But in a polite way. "Well, my day started off well but then I broke my arm so I'm worse now."

Yeah I don't feel quite as harshly but as soon as I saw they didn't allow downvotes I knew their philosophy wasn't for me. Too bad about losing their gaming group though.

I've been using Firefox since Windows XP days and speed has never really been a complaint. Well back in Flash days some sites got janky but that was probably Flash as much as Firefox.

An analogue gauge is useful because you can see the rate of change not just the current value.

Probably not a bad idea. Google used to be full of tech nerds but it gets more corporate and bland all the time.

I can't imagine waiting in a queue to play a single player game.

Whoops, accidentally bumped into your bikes as I walked down the sidewalk they were parked on!

Also "Sensitive info", what is that? Fingerprints, social security number, and penis size?

Ok top seller by revenue, that makes a bit more sense because a lot of games will be selling for under $10. But still that's impressive and bodes well for Linux gaming.

Tom Scott, he has done a video every week for like 10 years. Sort of a science travel adventure nerd. His videos are generally short and interesting.

Veritasum - Science guy with some interesting topics

Donut Media - If you like cars, they do some interesting and funny things while not being complete asshats.

The Proper People - Abandoned places, nice videos and respectful exploration.

Cash Jordan - Gives tours of NYC apartments from tiny studio apartments up to multi-million dollar penthouses.

Geography Geek - A lot of interesting geography-related facts.

Knob Feel - Short and sweet reviews of various knobs.

Vice Grip Garage - If you are interested in how old cars are repaired and have lots of time, he has many ~1.5 hour videos of dragging old cars out of the bushes that haven't ran for 20 years, getting them mostly running, and driving them home.

Polyphonic - Interesting video essays about various music and musical artists.

Third-person shooters suck. The character model gets in the way of seeing and I don't need to see the super tacticool costumes. And the more decent third-person shooters switch to first-person for aiming down the sights anyway.

Cards in video games suck. Unless it's simulating a real card game. Otherwise we don't need powerup cards and such, use some other mechanic. My level 89 death knight doesn't need to be pulling cards out of his pockets.

Motion blur, vignetting, depth of field, lens flare, none of these should be the default. Show me the game world clearly.

I think if wages were higher people would have less problem parting with some of their income. But when living expenses are so close to net income it's tough.

It doesn't have to be profitable. Especially for people that already have computers running 24/7 and good Internet, a Lenny server is just another process they run on their machine. Admin/mod duties would probably be the hardest part.

Generally NO, the only acceptable defacement of caves I've seen are bolts to accommodate rappelling down shafts. Of course with commercial caves they have to do quite a bit of defacement.

Not really. After having been through some deaths and illnesses of people close to me, every normal day is a good day to me. No news is good news, I can live my life quietly and how I want.

As for success in life, if I take care of myself, try not to make things around me worse, and try to help others I'm pretty happy with that. In my work we make a few products from scratch so I feel like I contribute to society.

The majority of housing in the USA requires a car. The nearest public transport option for me is 40 miles away.

If I did live in a city I would prefer to live near where I worked and shopped. Then I could get by without a car day-to-day, but would still want the freedom of a car for road trips.

Generally you stop every 2-4 hours to stretch your legs, go to the bathroom, get fuel, etc.

So if Google Maps says a drive takes 10 hours, I would factor at least another 1.5 hours for stops and a meal somewhere along the way. So 11.5 hours or so if you don't stay stopped too long. 0 miles per hour brings the average down quickly.

They are creating a bunch of traffic problems in cities like San Francisco where the driverless car companies are essentially allowed to beta test their vehicles on public streets. They stop in the middle of the road and block traffic and emergency vehicles. https://www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/driverless-taxi-cruise-waymo-18157172.php

Slow down, concentrate only on what you're doing, act deliberately.

Maybe this is hell and God isn't going to let the wicked out so easily.

Google wants even more than billions of dollars in ad revenue but can't or won't properly curate their ads. If you're too big to control your content then you're too big as a company. But I suspect they just don't want to pay people to curate the ads.

Between this and the fact that r/AdviceAnimals is apparently back with Reddit moderators, I think Reddit will go on. They own everything and can re-open every subreddit whenever they want. Many of the more technical/informed Reddit users will remain absent from the site but the bulk of casual users will likely remain. Whether the content that's left will satisfy them remains to be seen.

The fake information reminds me of the last time I went to the grocery store. The cashier said to the woman in front of me something like "Thank you Mrs. Smith" so I assumed she was a regular and the cashier knew her. When I checked out I fished out my rewards card and the cashier scanned it and said "Thank you Mr. Richards, have a nice day." I almost said "Thanks but who is Richards?" But then I remembered I am Richards, that is the fake name I filled out years ago but no one has ever used it (and are they supposed to?)

I think that's admirable. Personally I'd rather just pay $1 per month or something and not see ads at all and have app access.

Enderal for a whole new world in the Skyrim engine. New map, new creatures, new spells, new items, pretty much nothing is unchanged and it's really well done.

Kingdom Come Deliverance for a more hardcore and true-life fantasy RPG

Oblivion if you haven't played it, just needs a texture mod for the most part.

Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen

Witcher 3

Cyberpunk 2077 if you don't mind non-fantasy.

This article seems to suggest if you only work 3 hours a day your wages should be increased so you can support yourself with one part time job.

Our business does electronic assembly and sells the products online and sells web services. We get UPS and FedEx and USPS, and have a serviceable internet connection.

I think generally the less flashy features (pun intended) the better. Text and links (and well sanitized) is all we need.

Prepare for more pointless traffic backups.

Agreed except I'm not sure about "most. Maybe some.

No killing them is too extreme. Put them in a room with 1,000 different types of ringing telephones for a week.

Yes, once a company is a certain size it has too much power to exploit and do a crappy job of customer service while they do it.
