They can't even do bullshit PR correctly. You do the listening tour before the steady stream of unpopular decisions that go against the feedback you just collected.

My wife got me a fitbit. I resisted a little bit because I didn't want to have yet another device to monitor, charge, and maintain etc. I've been really surprised and impressed and how effective it has been in subtly encouraging me to make some small improvements in my habits. Not a bad deal for $100.

Pretty easy to see that this will lead to immediate short-term gains but long-term pain. I can't tell you the amount of infinite loops I've found myself in with AI chat, even among the most simplistic questions.

Remember: bones are luxury teeth.

Fun fact: for my family's insurance, it is $106/mo to pay for dental. I get access to two cleanings a year, plus 50% of billed expenses up to $1000. What is even the point?

I am pessimistic that he is "stuck". Billions and billions and billions of dollars are rarely stuck. The demographics are changing, but not nearly enough so that a D win is inevitable. That, paired with some of the structural victories he already has achieved (redistricting, conservative supreme court) make me believe that we are going to see his legacy continue for decades on. Dark.

I like the concept of being able to talk openly about mens' issues. That liberation name is unfortunate; in my opinion, it definitely sounds at least apologetic towards misogyny. What do we have to be liberated from?

The content here feels much better than other alternatives. Squabbles is stale by the end of the day (smaller userbase) and discuit is painfully quiet. It's not perfect, but the content here actually helps me to tolerate the server growing pains

Quite a few. I grew up in a conservative, racist family. It took me a long time to unwind the problematic casual phrases I grew up with. I'm not proud of it, and I occasionally cringe looking backwards. I realize now the tremendous weight and damage those phrases could do. Now I just try to be better day by day, and to make sure I don't perpetuate those damaging habits in my own children.

I would be absolutely shocked if this wasn't just smoke and mirrors marketing.

Neither one has a catalytic converter

Boring

What are your options? For example, I would rather daily an '89 Corolla over a '01 Kia.

What is your budget for maintenance? There will be nuisance items go like seals and gaskets due to age, even if the engine runs strong.

What is the price? For a car that's almost 35 years old, it better be low.

If you have a low budget, don't have a crazy commute, and can get a couple years out of this car for a couple grand, it could be exceptionally wise decision compared to a $600/mo car payment.

I remain dumbfounded as to how Roblox got so big and is now publicly traded.

Any third party player is a negative to Biden right now, even if it is "just" Manchin.

The election is won and lost on the 10% of independents within purple states, and this 'coalition' would batter left-leaning independents with ads

That's the best question. Clarence Thomas shouldn't have been able to openly flaunt his corruption for decades, but he has. Is this just going to be more firm hand-wringing by the Dems with no enforcement mechanism whatsoever? At that point, it would be better to just recognize the court as illegitimate in the public eye as opposed to giving the false sense that it is in anyway ethical.

I support this. While the GOP base continues to shrink and die off, the Dems are doing no favors but continuing to make a vast swath of voters feel unrepresented. I was 18 when Obama came around in his first run and I felt represented then. I don't think I've felt represented personally since then.

This is not an endorsement of the GOP. Just an echoing of the general feeling of invisibility.

Progress is still progress, even if it's just slow incremental work to move back to pre-Trump norms.

You could put this in the parenting community and get even more positive feedback, lol

Between Boost and Sync, Lemmy is emerging as a promising option because there's going to be multiple strong 3rd party apps to engage with.

Great question. A lot of government agencies consider Kentucky as part of the southeast, but I would say that culturally Kentucky falls squarely into Appalachia, along with West Virginia, Tennessee, western NC, southwestern Virginia, and southern Ohio. I would also say that Kentucky has a pretty wide metro/rural split, with Lexington and Berea being very different places.

This is a tough one. Is it better to know about an incurable disease seven years later if you can't prevent the progression of symptoms? Amazing study though.

Look at that, spez's idol being opportunistic against him. Dumbass.

Setting aside much-deserved flak about the Theta II and the immobilizer, there is little-to-no argument that Hyundai has been consistently pumping out the best and most innovative designs in the large auto manufacturer space.

I genuinely hope so. I know that not all hope is lost, but some days the relentless march of climate change articles -- Vermont thousand year flood! Phoenix, 99 degree overnight low! is crushing.

Since China (with the US) is one of the major offenders of fossil fuels, I am curious as to whether we see more dramatic climate change impacts in China specifically, or if that impact is going to be diffused across the world. China is a big country.

The legacy of trump will not be his shenanigans, mostly. It will be the packed and young conservative supreme court and how they reshape this country.

I'm a fan of Connect. It goes a good job with the material you design language. Once the Sync for Lemmy is released, I'll bounce over to that app. Overall, I've been very pleased with Lemmy. It doesn't have the volume of content to the more niche fringes, but it scratches the itch all the same, and I don't have to feel as gross doing it.

Among the wealthy there will always be the search for the rare and exotic. I'm not surprised that this has become some kind of distorted 'destination"

This is a good community idea. Is this a common acronym? Otherwise, how will folks find this community outside of this post?

This makes sense and I hate it

You're 100% right. When Hyundai announced a 5K rebate on the IONIQ6 to undercut a base Tesla, I priced one out given the rebate and an attractive 1.49% APR on 60 months. It was still $600 a month! I technically have the ability to afford that but it would stress my budget to a level that I'm not willing to do. I have a heavy commute and the ability to charge at home so it makes a ton of sense for me....but they are just too expensive right now.

This is a good sign. Manheim Auto Index shows the same (not sure if Cox and Manheim are connected). However, I am pessimistic about just how long dealers will be willing to stick to the current pricing model. I think even if we see the economic landscape shifting now, it could be upwards of a year before we start seeing meaningful decreases in the Used Car market. Consumer sentiment often does not react as quickly as the underlying economics.

A used malibu is super uninspiring but dollar-for-dollar appears to be one of the better deals on the market if you're sticking to that "max 3 years old" rule of thumb. The interest rates are crushing and there are so few options available at the low-end of the market. Malibus are at least on the lot.

No governor exemplifies "The cruelty is the point" more than DeSantis. Most GOP governors will provide all of the public talking points but still do what benefits some of their constituents when the window is open. Desantis is a different (worse) breed.

Good points. I guess I was thinking about it from the stereotypical "adult gamer with disposable income" perspective. Not those gamer's kids.

Smart on KIA, then.

Hopefully not!

Overall I am pretty intrigued by this Buick offering. The styling is different, the car is not bloated or over-complicated, and the pricing is incredibly appealing compared to most new vehicles coming to the market right now. I think it's interesting and commendable that Buick went downmarket when everyone else is trying to pump out 50k SUVs.

I typed something up but it looks like it didn't post. I think we're saying two different things.

I'm talking specifically about the design language that you don't like. The EV9 and the new Sante Fe, the Santa Cruz, the hatch IONIQ5 and even the divisive IONIQ6. I love those designs. They feel unique and bold. I would put them among some of my favorite designs of major, non-exotic manufacturers. Clearly just personal opinion but I feel like they've put out hit after hit on design, compared to whatever the hell BMW is doing as an example.

I can't really say anything about their engine design or internal components. I'm ignorant there. I'm saying I find myself intrigued by Hyundai in spite of their terrible track record because of the design language.

Your comment is spot on, and it's what led me to ultimately cutting bait entirely, after 12 years of heavy daily use: it's never coming back to what I remember it as.

Reddit is certainly not going to die anything -- the website itself will likely be around 10 years from now -- but it won't be the reddit I remember or loved. So I moved on. I toyed around with Squabbles for awhile but this feels much more like the reddit experience I'm looking for.
