Fortunately, it's actually mine, cuz I use Fedora with Gnome, which doesn't do these magic tricks 😁

Just use Firefox. Or LibreWolf if you want a pre-hardened Firefox. Remember to install uBlock Origin.

Imagine some guy working at InternetArchive replacing that file with anything else.

For example, the JS code redirecting the user to pornhub πŸ˜‚

reject() { accept(); } accept() { sendData(); }

That's because of the Unix philosophy: Write programs that do one thing and do it well. Write programs to work together. Write programs to handle text streams, because that is a universal interface.

or installing any OS you want without voiding the warranty? I mean when you buy a computer, no one cares if you install Windows or Linux. So why do smartphone manufacturers care?

No. The corporations have ruined the Internet

Spotify Premium in practice has new benefits!

More specifically: Lyrics that they took away from regular users some time ago.

If it makes her happy, why do you care? I assume that most people do "childish" things despite their age because it makes them happy.

Or someone asked a question on Reddit and got an answer, but then it was removed due to a protest. All you get is the reply β€œThank you so much! It works now”

I already use Fedora Linux, and this Windows is in a virtual machine because sometimes my school requires me to use software that simply doesn't run on Linux

So why not add a 'Screenshots' section with hyperlinks to PNG files?

In all honesty, you should decide between Debian and Fedora. If you're new to this, stay away from Arch Linux, Gentoo, or Manjaro. Simplicity is key. The two systems I mentioned are known for their reliability, so you should be fine with either one.

TL;DR:

  • Windows Recall, part of Microsoft's new Copilot+ PC initiative, has sparked major privacy and security concerns.
  • The feature uses AI to capture and store screen data locally, allowing users to search for past activities using natural language.
  • Despite assurances that data is not uploaded to the cloud or used by Microsoft, user trust is lacking.
  • Microsoft has a history of practices that have eroded user trust, including obtrusive ads, ignoring user preferences, and requiring Microsoft Accounts.
  • Users are skeptical, fearing future misuse of the collected data for advertising or AI training.
  • Windows Recall reportedly stores data unencrypted, making it vulnerable to access by third-party apps and potential malware.
  • The open nature of Windows amplifies these risks, unlike more secure systems like iOS and Android.
  • Users have compared Windows Recall to spyware, with many threatening to switch to other operating systems like Linux or Mac.
  • Microsoft's attempts to keep the development of Windows Recall secret did not help build trust.
  • Windows Recall will only be available on new Copilot+ PCs, requiring specific hardware not present in existing PCs.
  • Users will have the option to disable the feature, but there are concerns about it being enabled by default.
  • Despite security issues, the feature is effective in helping users find lost or forgotten data.
  • It could improve productivity if trust and security concerns are resolved.

No no no, nothing like that. He is not asking for anything himself. My mother has sent him a couple of times a few dozen dollars supposedly of her own free will, which he didn't ask for, and he is said to be very grateful for them. He even sends her proof of purchases of what he buys with that money comparing prices and choosing the cheapest products (because the country he lives in is poor).

I forced myself to use Wayland for a week.

Most of the applications worked out of the box. For some I had to manually change the settings and/or environment variables to make them work on Wayland.. And single ones did not work at all.

If it weren't for the fact of these "single ones" I would have stayed on Wayland.

However, as long as I can't use my system fully functionally, I remain on XOrg.

I had at my home spare Raspberry Pi 4B in 4GB version. I installed the Android TV version of LineageOS on it and then Jellyfin and SmartTube apps (something like NewPipe, but for TV). I highly recommend it.

Edit: You may also find these apps useful:

LocalSend - to transfer files between devices in the same network

KDE Connect - to control your TV with your phone when you don't have any Bluetooth keyboard around you

You could:

  • Ask your neighbor if he has unmetered Internet connection and if so, then chip in (⚠️ This may be against their operator's terms of service. Before doing so, please check the terms of service)
  • Ask a friend with unmetered connection to download all the stuff for you and just hand you the disk
  • Use a public hotspot (such as McDonald's Free WiFi) to download this stuff. Take into account that the download speed will be extremely slow.
  • Rent a server in the datacenter (i.e. VPS), download the data there, and get the data using your connection only as much as you need at the moment. The disadvantage is that you don't really own the data stored on this server.

When they block your account they are effectively doing you a favor

I noticed that recently every post on Proton's blog has been an advertisement of their services.

They are hypocrites.

A few days ago they posted that corporations are bad because they collect fingerprints, profile users, etc., yet they are no better, as their mobile apps rely on Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) owned by Google to deliver notifications to their users.

In 2020 they wrote that they "may offer alternative push notification system", but apparently shitting on corporations is easier than making actual changes. Four years ago.
