I’ll just use Safari

Makes me feel slightly better to know I’m not the only one living in a country (United States) where foreign bought phones are a hit or miss on the networks. wish they could create a better system though.

Smells like bad regex

That's why it's important to build a personal security and privacy model and a good idea of what you are and are not willing to give up. Instead of blindly chasing after the things that everyone else does. Since for most people, that idea of living in a forest is usually unobtainable

That's actually interesting since an android is probably a lot easier to sell off than an iPhone given activation lock

Sticky keys is it so that when you press the modifier keys (control, shift, alt/option and win/meta/super/command), you won't need to hold them in order to activate a keyboard shortcut.

It's an accessibility feature designed to make it easier for people who may have trouble using a keyboard to activate keyboard shortcuts.

Well to start, it would certainly be helpful to support OpenGL + Vulcan

Free apps were already pretty unsustainable in iOS to begin with given the $99 yearly developer fee :/

if you're cold, they're cold

put them in the computer at your work

The clickbait in this article is so bad, I thought it was a security vulnerability or something, but it's just something else related to Mozilla again.

I'm still genuinely curious if Mozilla is going to actually accept a renewal for the search deal with Google, or if they're actually going to start practicing with a praise and try implementing that search engine selection screen.

Lol the wording and design of it all. Subscribe to use without ads, picture of a credit card. Versus Use for free with ads, picture of a shooting star:

Discover products and brands through personalized ads, while using your Facebook account for free.

Plus the little "your current experience" highlighted in green. And finally "use for free" highlighted in blue.

They really want you to go with the second option so they can try to prove to the court that people want free stuff. When most of them were likely unconsciously coerced into it.

Maybe now I'll finally be able to buy the ones I want

It would also require that social media sites use "reasonable age verification methods" to verify users' ages.

Please no :/

This honestly feels like some 3-month early April fool's joke. A smartphone more dependent on an external set of servers than what Google already has.

Consumer disapproval of AI use in customer service is unlikely to keep firms from deploying the technology as the cost savings are just too great

So much for the market determining what goes

I fear for the digital literacy of Gen Alpha

You’re somehow making this sound more fun than it should be.

So many of these comments are pulling up the other encrypted alternatives that you can use between iPhone and other platforms. But few seem to actually be addressing the problem of actually getting other non-tech savvy people to use this stuff because they don't actually see a problem with what they have.

You may not realize it, but not everyone is thinking about whether or not their messages are encrypted. My own family looks at me like "🤨" when I try to convince them to use something encrypted, like I'm trying to hide a crime or something. And I've only gotten my parents to use other services (WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger with end to encryption turned on) by digging my heels to get them to stop using SMS. I still haven't convinced my almost 16-year-old sister (she doesn't really message me that much anyway. But she's in that phase where she thinks she's all independent, and her first places are the simple stuff she knows).

Might I add that digging your heels at every attempt for someone to use SMS isn't socially acceptable. I've only done it because they're family and I love them

Lol why even download a Bible app when you could get an ePUB?

This seems like a great computer to use in schools to teach how a computer works

I always feel like whenever someone complains about fedi not being fully decentralized because they perceived too many instances as being held under a single place, they miss the point a little bit in terms of prioritizing infrastructure over user governance.

Aside from the potential disasters happening at them, it just really doesn't feel like a problem if most people are hosting an instance on a popular cloud platform. These are companies that are just providing infrastructure, and as long as you aren't trying to abuse their network or spread anything that they consider to be harmful, they won't really care.

Instances operated under Home and business ISPs aren't particularly immune to this either. And can still cut off an instance if they decide to.

I frankly wouldn't care at all had MS not truncate your home folder to 5 characters when using a Ms account and also didn't make using remote desktop impossible when enabling a passwordless account.

Suits the brand just right given how many edges they've sanded off the software

Why YOU should write a Wayland compositor

I don't really know how to do that

I would definitely get a Chromebook, but only once you can change the default browser from Chrome without needing to do any weird workarounds like Android apps

Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “wtf” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this image. Now there is a whole train of people masturbating together at this one image. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW.

It's nice to see good app security being praised. Sometimes it feels like some people on lemmy (and the fediverse) throw security to the wind.

Like one time I had heard someone over on Mastodon say that they thought that HTTPS was too overused and shouldn't have been everywhere because it makes older apps unable to access sites and also made adblocking just ever so slightly harder.

Which yeah, I love adblockers, but I'm definitely not comfortable with all traffic having to go unencrypted just for it.

It is frustrating how the different parts at Google overlap with each other in ways that basically make them counteract itself

They can live their childhood as they should do, focus on their learning and enjoy the real world without having to spend their life scrolling, which we all know is not good for them

Older people forget that the norm of childhood has changed. And assume that children should do the same things they did instead of learning how to moderate what they do

I think it would be better to enforce open, readable training sets that anyone can browse through to submit legal requests

Counter opinion: I think the rounded corners look nice. And do a good job matching up with the windows 11 aesthetic

Aside from the fact that it's owned by alphabet, what's so bad about .xyz?

Okay, let me just convince all 200 of the people I'm in a server with, who all have varying levels of tech skills, to download this different app they never heard of before.

I'd love to man, but it's just not as easy as that.

I personally like Material You. What I don't like is how Google apparently took away a bunch of the Pixel customization features (like icon shapes, fonts, etc) in favor of just material you
