Uncle Joe, yes of course. John is just Lurch in a Joe Stalin costume.
What people look like is definitely a statement on their character. You can always judge a book by its cover, as they say.
absolutely, you only have one chance at a first impression.
You're seriously saying you can judge a book by its cover?
Of course. As I said, you only have one chance for a first impression.
You seem to be badly misunderstanding this expression. Just because, once one has made a first impression, they cannot change that first impression (any more than we can change any other historical event), does not mean that the impression is accurate. That's really the entire point of the expression - that, if you aren't careful about your first impression, you may be judged unfairly, by people who are not wise enough to look deeper. Using that as justification for refusing to look deeper is absurd.
I know exactly what it means, just like yes you can judge a book by it's cover. That doesn't mean it's a correct judgement, but it certainly means the author/publisher needs to present an attractive cover.

I wouldn't.
So who do you trust exactly? Danny Masterson? He looks like a fine, upstanding individual.
My wife, my parents, various other people I personally know to various extents. But never any politicians or celebrities, or social media power users.
You trusted your parents the first time you saw them? Are you absolutely sure of that? Do you remember?
yep. Not that I had much choice on that one.
You're saying you remember it? You're really claiming that?
sure. once my eyes adjusted of course. living your whole life in the dark and then being pushed into the light is quite a shock.
