Any websites to help me find the genre of a song?

If I just look up "what genre is _____" it'll be very broad like "edm" or "pop" but I'd like to know if this is house or techno or d&b etc so I can start narrowing down my tastes

thanks guys

edit: Rate Your Music seems to be what I was looking for

I like everynoise for this.

It's got (essentially) every genre plotted, "in general down is more organic, up is more mechanical and electric; left is denser and more atmospheric, right is spikier and bouncier." You can search for a specific artist and see what genres they fit, and how other artists compare. Really handy for finding new music.

Edit: oof, it looks like the creator was laid off from Spotify, which is where they were getting their data to maintain it, so now it's just a static snapshot :(

If it's a well-known artist, looking them up on Wikipedia is a good way to get an idea what genre they make. A website that does this for all songs individually would probably be AI-powered and wrong most of the time.

  1. Find out which release (album/EP/whatever) the song is originally from.
  2. Search for the release on RYM. The RYM page of the release includes the genres of the release (and often more information).

Pandora is actually really good at this because of the music genome project and the fact their parent company is SiriusXM. If you run it on desktop using Firefox and you block origin, you will never see an ad.
