A federal judge blocked most of a law championed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) that strictly limited transgender health care for adults and banned it completely for children.

In his decision, U.S. District Judge Robert L. Hinkle rejected a common mantra of the DeSantis administration, saying that “gender identity is real,” and that the state cannot deny transgender individuals treatment.

“Florida has adopted a statute and rules that ban gender-affirming care for minors even when medically appropriate,” Hinkle wrote. “The ban is unconstitutional.”

Nice!

Is it, though? I'm pretty sure the whole idea is to get it before the SCOTUS so they can rule it is constitutional and give states carte blanche to take away peoples' medical rights, while creating precedent for taking more rights away and making it much more difficult to reverse.

Its gonna have to work its way up eventually and you gotta realize at some point they will wear out their very limited legitimacy if they haven't already. They already basically have to ban birth control and any "loophole" to forced delivery/birth to be ideologically consistent as enforced by their political stakeholders so their time is already very limited. Hopefully Biden can get the House and Senate and Presidency and rebalance the Court to eliminate the undue influence of these theocrat/oligarch helpers + wannabes

Just one supreme court justice flip would do wonders. Two would give us the edge. If I have only one reason to ask people to vote for Biden, it's that.

even if Biden doesn't do anything, there is a real possibility that if the other guy becomes president two old farts retire just before they die and let him appoint two more young demons to serve a lifetime.

hell, they don't even pretend to give a shit about democracy anyway, I'm not even sure they won't kill one of the liberal justices.

They took arguments that a president should have total immunity from the law seriously, instead of laughing that shit out of the room. What "legitimacy"? And what are the consequences of them losing it? How would those consequences be enforced?

I wonder if this will affect other states pulling similar garbage.

Not until it gets to a Circuit Court or SCOTUS, unfortunately.
