Somewhat-related: There was also just a post on !europe@feddit.org with an article saying that Poland would temporarily suspend the right to asylum.

Poland at least is a tiny bit more reasonable as they share a border with a somewhat hostile non-EU state, who has attempted effectively to weaponize the issue.

But what is driving the Dutch attempt here? Very disappointing.

Passing something like this would have been incredibly damaging to the EU.

If we could have opted out of migration rules then Brexit might not have happened.

They are well aware that it won't work. But they'll try regardless so they can blame Brussel when it fails.

They're also currently trying to pass a law to bypass the parlement so they can pass any law they want without having to get a majority vote by declaring a state of emergency (supposedly caused by immigration). This won't pass either, but it does allow them to blame others for their unfulfilled promises, resulting from years of making unrealistic claims.
