please help debug my qbittorrent socks5 setup with nordvpn

I am struggling to get my proxy setup to work, as described here https://support.nordvpn.com/Connectivity/Proxy/1047410732/Proxy-setup-on-uTorrent.htm
I successfully got the nordvpn login and password, added it to the connection GUI of qbittorrent on my Debian gnu Linux machine, and applied the settings. I use the nl.socks.nordhold.net proxy server, and port 1080. But the final test with the magnet link from ipleak.net fails, and I never see the data from the magnet URL.
Does such a setup work for anyone else out there? How can I debug the setup?
Try using the IP address of the NordVPN SOCK5 server, instead of the domain.
I had issues with using the domain name provided by Privado, and found switching to the IP address resolved them.
ok, i tried that (109.202.99.45) and it still does not work. The "retrieving metadata" progress animation keeps animating, and no info in the magnet link on the ipleak.net website shows up.
Unfortunate. From here the best I can say is check the logs.
i dont see any socks5 or proxy related log messages. should I? if so, how can I enable them?
Consider containers. Gluetun makes it easy to establish a wireguard connection to Nord, then use qbittorrent docker on the network that glutun provides, same for all your *arrs. Safer, faster, self-contained. Connect your web-browser to gluetun's proxy. Just sayin'
I believe I had this working once but unfortunately I don't recall having to troubleshoot anything.
Right now I just use a stack and put all my apps the need VPN in that docker stack and use kasm Firefox with ipleak to double check the VPN.
The reason I use the VPN container (gluetun) is I think I can specifically connect it to the nord p2p servers... Is that possible with the proxy settings?
I got it to work by using a different soccks5 server. Those in the Netherlands didn't work.
