What are badges for in Kbin?

I’m familiar with the function of tags, but what are badges for/what do they do? I haven’t been able to glean this yet.
Badges are like post flairs on Reddit.
Have you gotten them working at all? Seems they're still a WIP perhaps?
I've set up some badges on one of my magazines, but I haven't really tested them.
Same, I've set them up and have tried to add badges to post just in case, but not sure it's working since it's just plain text and there's no autofill or anything.
