A NY-bound flight is forced to return to Toronto because of fire

TORONTO (AP) — A flight heading from Toronto to New York City earlier this month had to turn around because of a “burnt electrical smell” in the cockpit.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada said Endeavor Air Flight 4826 left Toronto’s Pearson International Airport the morning of Feb. 3 and was headed to JFK airport in New York when the flight crew declared an emergency.
The safety board said the crew was investigating the smell on the Bombardier twin-engine jet when the captain’s-side windshield electrical heater control unit began emitting sparks and flames.
But at least the door stayed on!
It happened 17 days ago, was a minor electrical fire, was stopped almost immediately, was on what might as well be a 5 minute flight, and there were no injuries or problems.
But it's written now?
This is such a strange news story.
The real thing burning on this flight is the planet, when you fly only 500 miles over a corridor directly served by Amtrak's Maple Leaf line.
To be fair, I am astonished that that service only averages 44mph. Amtrak's upgrades can't come soon enough.
