Launching m/kbindotcom, inspired by what r/reddit.com stood for in the early days of Reddit, helping adoption by centralizing discussion in one place.

Hello everyone!

When I made my last announcement here, I got a lot of feedback, some though comments and especially through DMs, and we saw a huge interest in something like r/reddit.com that played a huge part on Reddit in it's early days when it was still much younger and newer.

Today, I'm launching m/kbindotcom, this will be your place to literally post about anything, any topic, with an aim to bring everyone using Kbin and the fediverse together as a community until the whole userbase of Kbin (and the platform itself) across the fediverse matures and grows a lot more when we will have more than enough people for topic dedicated communities, that will be the final phase where m/kbindotcom will be archived as r/reddit.com is on Reddit today.

There is still a lot to do, lot of things we need to consider moving forward, for example I am skeptical of what kind of rules we need to imply, because this kind of community has a very very wide scope in-terms of topic as it has no focused topic, so if you have any ideas for rules, maybe even a draft, please do feel free to share them, the community is still in early stage and m/kbindotcom for now does not have any rules yet.

After that I will also roll out mod applications down the road, something worthy to mention here, so your contributions moving forward will be taken into account on m/kbindotcom moving forward.

NOTE: This initative's full goal is to bring everyone together, including those in other instances on Kbin, and even those outside kbin but still part of the Fediverse like Lemmy.

How can I help as a user?

Here is what you can do:

  • Upvote this post
  • Boost this post
  • Share this on other communities you may like/subscribed to
  • Share this on Reddit, r/RedditAlternatives is a great place for example (this only applies if you are still on Reddit)
  • Share this to your friends and peers if they are also on reddit-like platforms!
  • Subscribe to m/kbindotcom!

Thank you and hope to see you there!

Meh we already have /m/kbinmeta and redditMigration.

I feel like this might confuse people into thinking kbin.com is something that exists.

Great that you noted that, yes I will be putting a very clear disclaimer in the very top of the "About Community" section so that users will understand the name is just a result of being inspired by what r/reddit.com stood for.

EDIT: Here you go.
