To connect via satellite, you need to "move your phone to center the satellite in the circle".

I'm guessing you need to have a satellite phone first, the way this is written, some people might think normal phones can connect via satelite, which is not the case.

Is it AOSP, or Google exclusive?

I guess the app is google exclusive but satellite support shouldn't be

So a third party FOSS app could use the satellite feature in the same way?

I'm not sure about that, that depends on how the chipset works. I don't know
