Joe Biden and his political opponents have sharply criticized Khan’s announcement, arguing the court does not have jurisdiction over the Gaza conflict and raising concerns over process.
At an earlier hearing on Tuesday, Blinken said he would work with Congress on an appropriate response, calling the ICC’s move “profoundly wrong-headed”.
In 2020, Donald Trump’s administration accused the ICC of infringing on US national sovereignty when it authorized an investigation into war crimes committed in Afghanistan. The US targeted court staff, including then-prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, with asset freezes and travel bans.
If you don't follow the rules why be in it? What the fuck is the point of it? Was Trump right and now that Democrats are in, it makes no difference?
Then nothing should happen to the rest of the arrest warrants against other people from other countries.
The US is not a member of the ICC and has been opposed to its existence from the start. While it's true the ICC tends to be popular with a large percentage of Democrats, there's always been bipartisan support for shitting on it.
We are sooo not members of the ICC.
Like, the US has a law on the books allowing the president to unilaterally order an invasion of the Netherlands if the ICC tries to prosecute an American.
The thing about voting for the lesser evil is that they actually have to be less evil.
Donald doesn't care for any court, and will corrupt all of them. But yeah, both sides are equal... /S
I don't understand how the Biden administration is so tone deaf.
It's like they don't want to win this year's election or something.
It's almost like the US is the bad guys... The world is waking up.
Boy, who would have known that using up all our goodwill from the end of WW2 in the last 30 years would have bit us?
