What the scammer wanted to steal was not the driveway; they wanted to steal the contractor (driveway replacement worker)'s money. They pretend to be the owner looking for a driveway replacement, "accidentally" pay too much, ask for the surplus money back, and then do a chargeback on everything they paid. In this case the contractor went ahead before realizing they've been scammed. Experienced contractors ask for an in-person meeting or proof of ownership.

As for the contractor who did the digging, few solid leads have emerged. When deputies called the scammer and asked him for the contractor’s phone number, he helpfully provided one – that belonged to the Orlando International Airport.

Dear God, bad headline

Rolling out isn't a forced update. Microsoft uses machine learning to determine when a computer should receive a big feature update. These are gradual, similar to how how Steam staggers your game updates by default. Machines qualified by the model to have a "good" upgrade experience get updated first. This is to 1. not strain global delivery and local networks too much 2. be able to stop the rollout if anything goes wrong.

All the message they analyzed from MS meant was that as the EOL of previous Win11 version nears, they're starting to rollout the update to all PCs. You can still disable automatic updates.

The LGBTQ part only got into headlines about this because this thing might open up censorship in general, like book ban requests in Texas. It provides no path to prevent the harms to children described, meaning platforms could censor much legitimate and normal speech in an effort to prevent harm. An EFF article also says it'll have Attorneys General determine what counts as harmful to kids, meaning opening up censorship, but I can't find that in the bill text.

TL;DR: The MacBook orientation sensor

  1. Disassemble the MacBook until you take out the orientation sensor (this step is the hardest)
  2. Lay it flat and give 5V power
  3. Press the first button
  4. Wait for lights to solidify
  5. Press the second button
  6. Assemble entire thing back again

...wasn't nearly as exciting as I or the title expected. C'mon now, why clickbait; also why is the comments section treating this so godly

EDIT: I just realized they DEVELOPED THE CALIBRATION SOFTWARE TO MAKE THIS THIS EASY. It's still just the angle sensor though, which is a very small fraction, but still very important regardless. You need to buy the software (one time) for €169 though

Wayback is definitely more comprehensive than Google. I’ve only seen three occasions of links Google has saved that Wayback hasn’t.

Apparently it’s basically the Onion’s version of BuzzFeed

Leading question.

Edit: For an actual "answer", some people are in fact taking it to the streets. For your favorite country you can search for it and if you don't want to do that here's an article for the US. While you may argue that we should've expected this, at the time of financing all we know is that there was a first strike and people were angry. Now it's different, at least in my local circle.

Either way, this should not be a question for asklemmy. It should be in the politics community or something.

You can still re-enable it in the taskbar settings. Personally I like asking an AI to do stuff, so I like the Copilot icon in my taskbar, BUT NOT ON THE FREAKING BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER GODDAMMIT THAT'S FOR LIKE NOTIFICATIONS
AND NOW NOTIFICATIONS GO OVER COPILOT BUT NOT QUICK SETTINGS FOR SOME REASON AND IF YOU BRING UP QUICK SETTINGS IT SHIFTS TO THE LEFT AND HIDES NOTIFICATIONS??
at least I won't accidentally hide my desktop while clicking copilot in a place where it shouldn't have been
except oh no signing in to unlock copilot doesn't even fucking work

time to grind on my giant arch migration checklist and hunt for a good foobar2000 alternative which i'll likely never finish

But Epic v. Google turned out to be a very different case. It hinged on secret revenue sharing deals between Google, smartphone makers, and big game developers, ones that Google execs internally believed were designed to keep rival app stores down. It showed that Google was running scared of Epic specifically. And it was all decided by a jury, unlike the Apple ruling.

COI: Wikipedian

It's not overzealous. Wikipedia has bandwidth and doesn't want to duplicate what's already on https://www.wikidata.org/ (which has a much generous notability guideline: "It refers to an instance of a clearly identifiable conceptual or material entity that can be described using serious and publicly available references"). Notability is sort of a compromise on what will be maintained as an article to not have these you need to maintain just explode.

The part about forbidding primary sources isn't true; they aren't forbidden unless the claim is "exceptional"(what's exceptional is decided by whoever looks at the article), which doesn't include most of the facts cited. What's true is that primary sources don't count towards notability, so if an article mostly just uses primary sources it's likely to get deleted.

Not to mention some of the defectors are also "mods", if you mean admin by that. On Wikipedia, admins are seen a bit more like janitors who know the rules.

The fee is only for their benchmarking software, whose results get uploaded to the website.

only a limited unspecified number of users can test for free at any one time, and if no slots are open, then only subscribers to the $10-per-year Pro plan can test

When there are free slots, users will have to complete a 3D captcha minigame where the goal is to shoot down 13 ships. The minigame isn’t particularly difficult on the surface, but it can get very tedious as there are very few opportunities for users to actually shoot down any ships. We attempted to complete the captcha ourselves but gave up after a few minutes

Stop posting business insider, almost every legitimate thing there you can find covered better by other sources and all exclusives are probably improperly sourced

This was either inspect-element'd or made before March 2019. Apparently Apple (or its employees) donate little by little over each year. Here are the total donation records:

2023: $250-499 (so far)
2022-2021: $1,000–$4,999
2020: $250-499
2019-2018: $1,000-4,999

Made me laugh out loud though at least, right hand side mspaint comic is well-made
Also, why are the Apple people blue-collars?

The music on YouTube isn't any more piracy than unblocked Spotify. YouTube's "official" music uploads (these that are a square with a blurred background behind the square) are acquired by paying DistroKid or record labels. Unofficial uploaders usually aren't monetized, either bc they didn't enable it、are niche、or got ContentID'd by YouTube. Those few that are monetized(e.g. Si𝚕vaGunner and Gi𝚕vaSunner (i.e. not Si𝙸vaGunner or Gi𝙸vaSunner)) usually get DMCA'd eventually.

Downloading from YouTube is piracy though, though like OP says some don't think so for some reason.
