Something nostalgic and familiar about beta testing new apps, seeing the community grow, and getting 500 Internal Server Error screens in the process... I like it in a quirky kinda way

@halo5 What I see many comment on Reddit on is that they don’t necessarily have an issue with 3rd party apps going away or the API becoming a paid feature. I can understand that although I am an Apollo user since day one, and to me Reddit is Apollo. The problem is though, none of those are the key issue here anymore. It’s not about Apollo or APIs any longer, it’s about poor leadership and corporate greed. This is what a big portion of the community there is not getting. Even if they reversed course tomorrow, I’d still be hard pressed to return or ever give even a cent to Reddit because now I loathe the company behind it.

Popeyes hands down

@brunofin Wow this is app #6 now that pops up, added yours to the list in my thread: https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/35655/Several-iOS-apps-for-kbin-lemmy-are-now-in-development

@ernest Fantastic news and big thanks to all that are helping! @ernest I feel you will keep seeing several thousand users join in daily as the reddit shitshow continues to play out. There are now 10 apps being developed that will further support the transition especially as the July 1st shutdown takes place. That’s probably when a much bigger wave of new users will come in. Is your infrastructure scalable to allow for this onslaught? Thank you and everyone else again for your hard work!

Not yet but really needed future... surely somewhere on the mile-long todo list

Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive

I was just saying to my spouse this morning how it seems that the smart people have left reddit as there is a discernible drop in the comment quality in some of the communities I frequent. Unfortunately they haven’t even been registered here just yet. I am quitting reddit in a week anyway hopefully by then more of those communities will migrate here. I created two (Signal, Amex), hope others will follow suit.

Or a lot more confused as today you can simply say kbin and tomorrow you have to specify which one.

@okcool Math is not my greatest skill but "Huffman said 97% of Reddit users do not use any third-party apps to browse the site." Are they so bad that they can't cover the cost of 3% usage? Why is he still CEO?

Cool stuff, thanks all for the hard work it's appreciated!

Personally, I created two communities here that I frequented on /r, /m/Amex and /m/Signal because I wanted to help build kbin up overall, and give a home to those that migrated. Full disclosure, I will eventually step back from moderating once those communities grow and become self-sufficient with additional moderators joining in.

@Jarmer To be fair Discord is excellent for dev community coordination

And here is the The Unofficial Signal Messenger Community on the fediverse: link

@m3enzo You'd have to check with @ernest he did mention yesterday that "It's possible that we'll soon abandon the current API and integrate with one of the existing ones. I'm currently looking for the best solution.". @hariette who is the Kmoon dev is also on standby I believe for that same reason at the moment.

Thank god for that. I was just in Italy a few weeks back and rented a brand new Cupra Formentor from Europcar which had no cameras at all. I couldn't believe it!

They are going full send on pissing everyone off at this point

Kinda looks like kbin

@ChrV Thanks, added!

I don't get Notifications at all 🥲

@Perry Strongly in agreement with a lot of what you are saying here. IMHO, the sooner Magazines etc. are rebranded, the better. It is very confusing at the moment. Calle them Bins perhaps or just stick to magazines as communities, articles/videos/media/eta as threads, and microblogs as posts...

@curiousPJ Would be awesome if a list would display in the sidebar when clicking on "Subscribed" in the top bar

@techno156 @Otome-chan@kbin.social

I'm pondering whether to embark on that journey myself, as I have a topic that I feel deserves it's own instance. I have some experience in setting up websites (going back to forums days with phpBB, vBulletin, and Invision going through WordPress and Pligg) but those were relatively easy as there were installers and plenty of info online. kbin will be a challenge for sure but also an exciting project I feel.

@JelloBrains Great points all around, especially the DMCS liability part... thanks for sharing!

@demvoter Added thanks!

Yes, big time. It feels almost as if half of the comments are bots, propping up spez and crapping on the mods who supported the blackout. Unfortunately, there are still a few subreddits that have no equivalent here just yet and I end up having to revisit reddit to get the info I need on an ongoing basis. I started two communities (Signal Messenger and Amex) here myself in an effort to help with transition but so far there hasn't been much happening on that front. I even went as far as messaging the mods on the /r/ equivalents but none of them wanted to move over, or even give it a shot as a subscriber. Nevertheless, I am not giving up and still feel there is growth to be had. Perhaps once the apps die off on reddit, we will see additional users transitioning.

@ArtVandelay Logic is not what got them into this situation, logic is not what will get them out of it

@lemminer @HeartyBeast @leapingleopard

@Zak8022 Hi I don't own the info so feel free to copy it over if you feel like it. I'll keep this here up to date as it makes sense to me for the info to be on the fediverse rather than outside (I see several github and google drive copies now). There are a few links on reddit point to this post here as well.

@aeharding Added!

@alin I’m keeping an eye on any new apps and updating the post

@ernest

@BrollyLSSJ Thanks I just saw your comment right after I updated the list! :)

@gkd Hi it crashes for me upon logging in (kbin user)

That’s a rounding error on their P&L

@BentiGorlich Nice, well, see you there!

@BentiGorlich Great point about the matrix chat, need to get acquainted with that finally as most of the other projects I am involved in are communicating via Discord. Are you administering The Brain Bin?

@Alexmitter Thanks for linking the relevant repo issue, that explains it.

Negative, because spez is a dick and ernest is a cool dude. Having said that, Ernest is the person who build kbin (the software) and also kbin.social (this instance of the kbin software), amongst other things.

@Sinnerman

That's a newly minted issue, check this thread: Federation with some lemmy instances is 404'ing

@ernest May I suggest https://changemap.co using that for another project I am a part of and works very well for $20/month
