Just goes to show that for all they claim to love the military, the GOP is emphatically not backing servicemembers. Not during service, and not after they separate or retire either, judging by how they keep cutting veterans benefits.

How about we start right now? Just don't post anything related to him until it's actually confirmed to be actually happening and not just him shitposting.

Muskovy needs to get the Japan/Germany treatment - entirely demilitarized and culturally rewritten from the ground up over three consecutive generations until they're more associated with absolute pacifism a Muskovite version of anime than anything else. The rest of the RF needs to be culturally rewritten until they don't even remember what the word "Russian" means other than synonymous with "Nazi".

Want this the case when Reddit was tiny and Digg was huge too?

I feel like you didn't actually read their comment before posting, !dipshit@lemmy.world

It has nothing to do with Lemmyshitpost being their "favorite community" and they never mentioned "investing" or "value". That's all from you. Stop strawmanning their position. They were criticizing the ease with which entire communities can be taken down by single individuals. Additionally, it seems you are contradicting your own post from 20 minutes prior to your current comment. Perhaps you responded to the wrong comment?

From what I remember, AI facial recognition tech was already being used by police and agencies worldwide, like the FBI, PRC police etc, or am I misinformed? I remember something about Chinese and American facial recognition software.

"Democrats" is an amazingly broad term that mostly encompasses "almost anything that isn't Republicans". It isn't so much a unified monolith as an alliance of often polar opposite interests banding together only because the GOP is the only real alternative. Were the GOP to disappear tomorrow, I guarantee the Democratic party would almost instantly split into dozens of smaller parties, or possibly into two again. Compared to most of Europe, an American "Democrat" is a centrist or even a right wing neoliberal. People like Bernie Sanders, who is viewed as a far-left outright communist in America, would barely count as center left in most of Western Europe.

How about the following examples:

  • Mass surveillance and voice recording (1984)
  • Nuclear weapons (HG Wells, The World Set Free)
  • Corporate controlled hypercommercialized microtransaction-filled metaverse (Snow Crash)
  • Netflix to create real-life Squid Game (Squid Game (speedrun!))
  • "MoviePass to track people's eyes through their phone's cameras to make sure they don't look away from ads" (Black Mirror)
  • Soulless AI facsimile of dead relatives (Black Mirror)

Or, hear me out, they were born in a place without their consent, raised in that place as a minor without their consent, and now are not financially or physically capable of leaving that place on their own.

They aren't asking devs to be admins or for admins to be devs. They specifically called out the developers because code exists to filter child sexual abuse material, disseminated by organizations such as the FBI and law enforcement, which can be implemented for image uploading.

NOBODY in this comment section is advocating for uploading fucking child sexual abuse material. That is a strawman you are setting up. Nobody is advocating for allowing the uploading of child sexual abuse material, or for the "material to be up on lemmy instances". NOBODY is suggesting that a single instance going down is "the world is ending". NOBODY is asking for "100's of mods to specifically address this one user's posting of CSAM".

You're setting up a strawman argument nobody is proposing. The criticism is that, at this moment, the developers of Lemmy have not implemented a method for automatically vetting uploaded images for CSAM without requiring "100's of mods", which is what resulted in the condition that "taking the community down is the only option here".

Perhaps the wording of the original post was not precise and accurate enough for your full and complete understanding of the intent and meaning behind it. In this post, I have attempted to elucidate that intent and meaning to a degree which I hope is understandable to you.

No hard feelings when I get the order to round up your kids to put into the camps after Führer Trump gives the signal, right? I'll just be following orders, and don't worry, work will set you free someday! I'm sure the dead Palestinians from our nuclear launch will thank you from the afterlife for sticking it to The Man.

And I wonder how many of those 95% have already used misapplied AI facial recognition to justify FISA court warrants for stalking investigating random people suspected terrorists?

Yes, and ads should be regulated regardless of whether the service is free or not. Same way you can't put outright porn on a highway billboard.

You know this is the Fediverse, right? You have the power to make your corner of it into whatever you want. There's nothing forcing you to be federated with lemmy.world or kbin.earth, just as there's nothing stopping you from exclusively interacting with lemmygrad. The Fediverse is whatever you make it, and everyone has the right to make their corner into whatever they want.

So what's the solution to blow this joint and start a new paradigm? Television killed radio. Blogs and streaming killed television. Current social media killed blogs. If the fediverse isn't the solution, then what's going to kill and replace current 2010s era social media? And don't say short form video, because that was cool for maybe a decade before the big corpos started pushing it and it was no longer cool.

Y'all were the ones saying not even to bother voting because the whole thing's rigged and hopeless, so if you can't beat 'em, fuck it, join 'em. As long as you're not in a position of power when the big guy gets taken down, it doesn't look like anyone ever cares, and you might even get a standing ovation in Canada.

If I could give you some kind of prize I would. Have a meaningless pixel trophy instead, and an upvote: 🏆

Digg and MySpace were behemoths once too. So was Yahoo.

Indeed! Nothing's forcing you to be federated with lemm.ee, or keeping you from interacting with lemm.ee. You could block me, or defederate from the instance I'm on, just I could do the same. That's the beauty of the Fediverse, it is what you make of it. Curate it however you like, and let others curate their own experiences how they like. Liberals, neocons, paleo-cons, communists, anarcho-capitalists, ancoms, apolitical folks, there's a place somewhere on the Fediverse for every flavor.

Honestly? Posts like yours make me consider voting for Trump just to show the world the consequences of your attitude. Maybe after you and everyone you love end up hunted down by the death squads or put on a train, the idea that maybe, just maybe, you should've reconsidered while you still had the chance will enter your head. Fuck it, I already enlisted in the military, might as well wear the jackboot while I'm at it.

Yep, Lemmy on web browser no longer allows me to post images in comments.

Huh. Did you try the old ![](https://example.com/image.jpg) thing to link to another site? Actually, let me try real quick:

random image selected from Lorem Picsum

I can see this on my end. There does, however, seem to be a problem with uploading images to Lemmy. Not sure what to do about that, sorry.

"Could"? My brother in Christ it's been happening for years now.

The problem is that "they" live in the same world as you. Which means that you'd be going right down with them, along with all your loved ones. Is that really what you want?

Exactly. When are we going to get blank stares when we mention Reddit? That's the moment I'm looking forward to the most.

(In case you actually don't know, Digg was a precursor to Reddit, which did basically the same mistakes and got itself replaced by Reddit and forgotten way back in the MySpace era)

Lots of us are not, though, and we are both ready and willing to use deadly force against insider threats if the rules of engagement and deadly force compel us to. We swore oaths to defend against enemies both foreign and domestic and to refuse unlawful orders which are contrary to regulation and the Constitution.

When will we see a MySpace or Digg moment, or Yahoo moment for Reddit? When will mentioning Reddit get you an eyeroll and an "Okay, millenial" response from Gen Alpha?

But tools do exist. PhotoDNA by Microsoft. Although much more user-friendly implementation if you use Cloudflare, related links:

As far as I am aware, every major site does use it in addition to manual vetting for any flagged "borderline" or "uncertain" results caught up in the filter.

Reject streaming, return to mp3? Although I know storage is always an issue these days.

Edit: I'm hearing really great things about Tidal, which is apparently cost-competitive for music, and Deezer, which also does podcasts, if you're set on streaming.

It's a large landmass. If their population dips below the point where they can even maintain a coherent government or enforce their will on their colonies, we might be able to watch those same colonies start declaring independence. Hopefully, at least, even if I'm not holding my breath.

While true as far as military intervention goes, I'm cautiously optimistic about Peter Zeihan's predictions that its current demographic freefall will help take away their ability to actually man, operate and maintain those systems.

I've successfully gotten a single coworker to join Lemmy. Most of the others barely even know what Reddit is. My family also very rarely uses social media other than YouTube, and there simply is not enough content on PeerTube for them to be convinced to switch.
