After Reagan successfully convinced the electorate that the concept of governing is prima facie a bad idea, Dems seized the opportunity to engage in a hard-right shift and position themselves as "fiscally common-sense but socially liberal" and weaponize intersectionality into identity politics so that we'd all think it was a great victory if our tax money was being redistributed to big banks by a black man, illegal drone assassinations were being ordered by a woman and labor laws were being undermined by a gay man.
