Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.) Tuesday signed a $24.3 billion education budget for fiscal 2024 that her office is hailing as “historic.”

The new budget ensures all public school students get two free meals a day, places more priority on mental health resources and takes the first steps towards providing free pre-K for Michigan students, among other changes, according to a press release from the governor’s office shared with The Hill.

Stuff like this makes me want to live in Michigan. It doesn't outweigh all the reasons I don't want to live there, but it's a start.

Michigan is one of the states that will be mostly livable, even after the full climate catastrophe hits.

It will be in one of the vanishingly small, islands of stability that are predicted to exist.

This is what can happen when we vote the fascists out of power. The 'both sides the same' bullshit is idiocy and is propagated by the disinformation machine in order to suppress voters.

Even as a conservative, Whitmer seems to be doing a lot of good for her voters.

Free lunches, better resources for kids and more funding for ELL.

Although I'm skeptical of too much more spending on public schools, as we spend an absurd amount more per full time student compared to our peer countries, as long as the funds are directed to doing good like this, instead of just the bloat at the administration level, it's agreeable.

Hopefully 2028 Democratic primary is Big Gretch v Pritzker. I think either would be a better nominee than Newsom.
