Why do all communities from lemmy.world show up as "Subscribe Pending"
It seems to be in error because I've seen posts show up and I just made this post obviously.

I've been told it's a timeout issue when subscribing, but it doesn't affect anything
Is there any way to fix it? Leaving in functional glitches and clear lack of polish doesn't seem like a great idea.
Nobody said we were polished. We're literally the upstart underdog.
It is known about, and it's being worked on, but since it's ultimately an open source project, there's no deadline provided for when it will be fixed.
Luckily it's not a big deal, it doesn't prevent the pending subscriptions from showing up in your feeds. If it bothers you just wait for your server to be not busy, unsubscribe and resubscribe, should take care of it.
There was a different vulnerability found that let the attacker take full ownership of a compromised account - some moderator and admin accounts were compromised. I would prefer the developers fix that first.
Nice, so there is a quick user fix available. I understand it's low priority. I mistakingly got the impression that it wasn't being worked on because it doesn't actually affect thing.
Just for perspective though, it is confusing for inexperienced users (me at least) who are already confused by Federation and all that stuff. I wasn't sure if I signed up with a blocked community or wasn't meeting a subscription criteria.
Let me say, thank you for being here.
I honestly don't believe Lemmy is for everyone - at least not yet. There's too many issues for me to, say, recommend it to my mom. However for Lemmy to become capable of being that network it needs people like you. People that don't just get frustrated and walk away, but post an honest inquiry about 'why'. If nothing else the feedback is appreciated.
The Reddit/Twitter/General Shitification has shaken things up such that pioneers like us are seeding the fediverse with the wide variety of human interests that are richer and deeper than what the developers themselves can provide. Thank you for deciding that, "well, if the experience is going to be frustrating and annoying, at least I'll go with the frustrating, annoying experience that's trying to improve itself". My advice is to take Lemmy itself not too seriously - to laugh when the software has it's quirks, and to give others the benefit of the doubt. I look forward to looking back and 'enjoying how wild it was in the early days'.
Again, thank you. I'm starting to dream that in five years this place might be someplace really, truly amazing.
Functionally, it doesn't cause any problems. It'll show up in your subscriptions with the pending showing. It's just horribly confusing until you find out that it's a visual glitch rather than something functional.
And, it is mostly .world that does it. It isn't exclusive to there, but it does it more than any other instance, and it does it almost all the time.
Do you need to hit it again? crap
For new communities click on subscribe then refresh the page.
For already subscribed communities, unsubscribe then re-subscribe then refresh the page.
LemmyWorld is under a lot heavier of a load than most other instances, so they're a bit more prone to delayed sync issues, I've noticed. That'll come and go as the LW admins mitigate their load.
I really wish that the more specialized communities on LW would find different instances to migrate themselves to. LW should just be more of a "generalist" instance, since they're seen as the de facto "hub" for the Threadiverse right now, so anything to help move some of those communities onto instances that can handle them better would be great.
I think this feature is broken from its conception lol.
Good question, OP. I’ve often wondered this myself.
