Wasn't my choice. I was 10.

Actually, I have. It gives me better tracking protection than vanilla Safari, it allows me to use SearXNG, and it means I can set a custom homepage. Also, for some reason, Safari has no private mode on my phone.

Not to mention that Mozilla is working on a Gecko-based version of the browser, as Apple is being forced by the EU to allow sideloading, third-party app stores, and third-party browser engines.

Time to get an Android, I guess.

Try changing your user agent to a Chrome one (e.g. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/120.0.0.0 Safari/537.36). Works a treat!

Here it is on PeerTube, since we're on the Fediverse and probably wanting to avoid Google.

It wasn't my dumb idea.

In an ideal world, this would be a good thing. Machines doing the work so humans can relax; but I doubt this is even possible in the world we live in.

In the UK, a lot of our government still uses XP and a lot of our public embedded devices (e.g. the tills in the Co-Op) run on Internet Explorer.

Some random Thai hacker using 7 isn't that much of a stretch.

Something Android has had since version 1.0: the ability to install apps from places other than the App Store.

If you're after an online dictionary, I personally like Wiktionary.

For people wanting to take down drones, I think a directed energy weapon would work. It uses a beam high frequency radio waves or microwaves to disable electronics. Since there's no projectile, it would be easier to use without getting caught.

Why would you do that?

When I went to the gender shop in 2006, I think I picked up two genders stuck together by mistake.

Possibly the best mistake I ever made.

Imma just delete the meme I made when he turned it on in the first place. This man is a cunt.

EDIT: Looks like I already did when he did something else stupid.

I got it for free. It used to be my Gran's.

It's not my choice. I'm a 17-year-old in a family of Apple shills.

There's a book I think everyone should read, and it's not Nineteen Eighty-Four.

UCAS is the organisation that deals with applications to higher education (e.g. university) in the United Kingdom.

EPQ stands for "Extended Project Qualification", and is an A-Level enhancement subject. In this subject, you pick a topic in September and spend the next few months writing an essay on it.

The streaming services have managed to completely forget their business model of being marginally more convenient than piracy.

As for me, though, I'll start ripping my DVDs. I'll sail the high seas when I have to, but I'd may as well get hard copies of my favourite films and TV shows.

A very nice list. I believe the entire Simple Mobile project has been forked to preserve the brilliant apps before their new owner completely butchers them. However, I don't have a link handy right now.

Print out pictures of cats and paste them over the top.

I'd go for PeerTube, personally. LBRY/Odysee would also do the trick, but it tends to have a lot of far-right bullshit on it, as well as being built around crypto.

I will as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

Yes, but sex and gender are different things. Our government is planning to ban transgender women from female wards, for example.

There are plenty of queer 17-year olds like me here, too!

What the fuck is wrong with you?

I use Zsh with the Oh My Zsh! framework, and I use a different theme depending on which subuserland I’m in, by customising ~/.zshrc. For example, I use the gentoo theme on Debian and its derivatives, agnoster on NixOS, darkblood on Arch, strug for Mageia, apple on my macOS device, aussiegeek on FreeBSD, and gallifrey on OpenBSD. Different themes helps me remember which package manager to use and which distro-specific commands will work.

I'll send some screenshots in a bit, when I boot up my PC.

I like Zsh because of its tab completion and command history. I also quite like its plugins.

Before anyone asks, I have tried Fish before, and I prefer Zsh. I have tried configuring Bash before, and I prefer Zsh. I have played with Ksh and Tcsh on BSD, and I prefer Zsh. I used PowerShell a long time ago, and I prefer Zsh.

I would expect nothing else from the Daily Fail. That paper is a crock of shit.

It begins...

Wait until you hear about Lemmygrad.

If this goes through, we will have simultaneous genocides running in the third, second, and first worlds.

I have half a mind to crosspost this to !collapse@lemmy.ml.

I said in the comment that it's not free. It's still open, though, AFAIK.

I would if I could. In an ideal world, I'd be running postmarketOS with LibreWolf on a PINEPHONE; but that's simply not the way things are.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing this is actually Arial or Nimbus Sans or something.

Oh, yeah. More channels should do that sort of thing.

So, I'm 17 and my Dad is an Apple fanboy. He started using Macs back in the '90s, and he's always been using their stuff. Over the years, he's managed to get my mum and her parents to ditch Android, and his parents to move on from their RAZRs. Now that everyone has iPhones, I have no hand-me-down routes. I have asked to get an Android, using my own money that I earned, but he always brings up the same arguments:

"Androids are inherently less secure than iPhones"

"We all use iPhones"

"Apple's proprietary ecosystem just works"

"I had an Android once. Once."

"Are you just trying to stop the Find My tracking? What if I need to find you?"

That last one could easily be misinterpreted. It's an emergency thing; he's not spying or anything. Don't worry.

I have an old Android in a drawer somewhere, but it's running 4.4, it isn't supported by any ROMs, and the battery barely lasts half an hour, so there's no point in trying to get it to work.

I'll also be going to university this year, so I should be able to get a cheap Pixel on eBay and flash GrapheneOS onto it soon enough.

Try Friendica first. If it's not your cup of tea, here are a few others:

  • Firefish
  • Mastodon
  • Akkoma
  • GNU Social
  • diaspora*
  • Hubzilla

That's an oxymoron.

Yup. I've probably still got an abandoned account from 2020 on that instance somewhere.

On iOS and macOS, it's hard to beat NetNewsWire.

On Android, I use Feeder.

On Windows and Linux, go for QuiteRSS.
